This isn’t for everyone. I didn’t think any of the jokes were funny. But it just was interesting to me. It was short and I was kept guessing about what the men were there for. I had a ton of fun, and kept having Google open to research on what of the info in the book is based in reality.
fast-paced
Definitely one of Palahniuk's weaker efforts but it was a quick read.
It could have been so decent! Well, perhaps not decent. Tolerable?
The sex industry seems to be right on the cusp of becoming a field of study (I'm thinking of a couple documentaries on Netflix and a few first person narratives). Unfortunately, Snuff reads like Palahniuk was trying to see if he could get something out there before everyone else. The characters are flat, the premise is boring, and there's really none of the promised climax (sorry).
Snuff was not the "wild, lethally funny, and thoroughly researched novel" I was promised. It was basically the equivalent of seeing Ron Jeremy in his pajamas buying Rogaine and anti-chaffing cream at Walmart at 3am: disappointing, a little unnerving, and really just a little disgusting.

A rare miss for Chuck P. Many of his work seems so effortless but not this one. The desperation to please oozes off the pages. Sometimes it’s a good ooze but mostly not. It’s still pretty good though.

I listened to this as an audiobook. This is the 3rd audiobook I've been able to listen to fully. It took a while, but I did it, and I feel pretty accomplished. The narrator is pretty good. He kept me engaged, which is the only reason I was able to finish listening to this. I thought this book was pretty entertaining. It was ridiculous, gross, and almost lost me at the end, but I had a good time. I don't think I was ever bored, so this gets a 3.75. I'm changing it to a 3.5
This book was.... strange--as to be expected by Palahniuk. I took me over a year to finish it as it wasn't quite captivating enough to keep my attention. Sometimes I felt like it would never end. I guess it just wasn't for me.
Barely a whiff of a plot. More like the longest end scene ever. Disappointing.

a novel about a porn/snuff film, it touched on topics like rape, fetishisation and hyper-sexualisation but went nowhere with it. a lot of sex puns and old-school names for sex-related things, it was an odd novel in both a good and bad way.
it’s sexual, it’s mysterious, and it’s dark.
