5 stars: I am in awe at this book.
I was incredibly skeptical about reading Emily Henry as I know a lot of popular authors have been built up to just be pretty awful. Even after reading Sally Roony, I was pretty let down by the high expectations I had set for her and specifically Normal People. However, this book took me completely by surprise, I was so sure I wouldn't like it simply because it was a romance, and I haven't really read many; I was expecting this to be a classic Colleen Hoover-esque read but boy was I wrong.
The writing is amazing, the way Henry describes people and relationships is so simple yet does so much for the book. The dynamics of each character felt so real and the preestablished relationships didn't feel forced at all. Everything was so engaging, and I would be anxious to pick it back up again after I had to set it down. So much so I read 100 pages in one sitting which Is quite a lot for me if I'm not already doing nothing.
Poppy was so relatable, and yes fairly clique, but she was written in a way that she almost acknowledged that, and her development throughout the story was so comforting and had a really good message.
There isn't much else I can say except I loved every second of it. It was so fun and so interesting, and I was consistently invested. I am so excited to read more of Emily Henry's work as I heard this isn't even one of her best books.

I liked Beach Read more, to be honest. This had a couple of funny moments, real laugh out loud moments, and it mentioned my country which gave me a giggle every time, although it was a literal bomb going off for our couple. I somehow didn't feel for Poppy, but I did for Alex, don't really know why. And the ending was maybe just a tad too sweet for me, which is saying a lot since I'm a romance fan. But still, don't take me wrong - this is a lovely, perfect summer read that's going to make you miss traveling and miss your friends.

Really enjoyed this! I loved the writing and the flash back type of style every other chapter. I also like the chemistry shown between the characters which is usually not the most common in other romances which tend to feel like insta love. I can’t wait to read her newest book!
