Lovely little slice of life novel about new beginnings and books. Quite fast-paced, which isn't my usual choice, but I enjoyed it nonetheless.

not my favourite book in the healing fiction genre that i've ever read, but i appreciated the message it shared. maybe would've resonated with it a bit more if i felt a better attachment to the characters.

The first half of Days at the Morisaki Bookshop was what I expected from the synopsis, a sweet story about the importance of reading and how fiction can help pull us out of low moments and see reflections of ourselves.

The second half of the book feels so different to the first. It’s a little darker and more fast paced. I just didn’t enjoy the second half of Days at the Morisaki Bookshop.

Days at the Morisaki Bookshop suited me better than some of the other cozy Japanese slice-of-life/self-help novels I sampled last year. Many of us dream of being whisked away from everyday life like this novella plausibly transported the main character Takako. Even though the impetus was upsetting, we can all agree she’s better off in the long run. Despite the brevity, this story showed how books are filled with wonder and have the power to connect us. It was hard not to feel good when Takako found her place and spread her wings. That being said, I felt satisfied with where the story ended and don’t feel inclined to pick up the next installment. In fact, I could have passed on the last 50 pages, which dealt with a missing person trope in a manner I dislike.

Story about a young girl who is trying to find her way through life and realizes that life is more than what she thought it was. If you are a fan of found family tropes then this one is for you. Super short too at only 140ish pages.

I really enjoyed it. Both parts of the books were interesting and very character focused. There was very little plot other than character centered issues. I have no complaints. Great read if you want a character centered storyline that’s really heartfelt with great character development and relationships.
