Listen (look), I cried on the bus.
This book perfectly captures what it's like to be a teenager and to think you have everything together before the world decides to remind you that you don't. The connections to family and culture were everything, and I will probably read this one again within the next year or so.

Wow this book was amazing!! I would highly recommend!
2.5*
Loved the setting and underlying "problems" that latin-american immigrants endure, how they stick together in an effort to rebuild the life they left behind, how they keep the spirit and culture alive as much as possible, how they are in search of where to fit in.
But something felt off to me. I didn't enjoy the story as much as I expected and I can't put my finger on the why.

TW: death of a loved one
Rep: bi Cuban American MC, Latino LI, black side character in a m|m relationship, Latina side character in a w|w relationship, British Nigerian side character
The first half was fresh, vibrant and colorful; the second half was more emotional, a tiny bit heartbreaking and bittersweet.
Overall it was very easy to read (expect when it made me cry), I enjoyed the story, I liked the setting and I liked how all the side characters were loud, in each other’s business but all cared for each other.
The acknowledgements made me bawl my eyes out and what’s new.

This was such a beautiful story of love between a girl and her family as well as a really cute wholesome romance. This is the audiobook I have cried the most in... near the end it is truly beautiful and hit really close to home for me personally.

This is the story of a young woman that is searching for her roots while being rooted in an incredible community that she has been part of her entire life. She is at the moment of deciding whether she will need to leave to discover herself or if she can closer to home and still move forward.
During all this life changing decision time she meets a cute boy, works to save her beloved community and face a family curse.
I enjoyed this story, but did not absolutely love it. The diversity of the community was part of what I enjoyed the most and it had me longing for my childhood I spent in a small town. I look forward to more reading more from Nina Moreno.

i was pISSEd starting the book, i know there are lot of americans with latino parents/gradparents and want to be informed on that culture but i hated the way it was presented. her grandmother didn't want to speak of it; she suffered on that country, she escaped of that place for a reason and her grandfather died risking a better life. just because the states is trying to mantain a good relationship with cuba doesn't mean it's right, i despise that people are travelling there. you are giving money to a dictatORSHIP that's been going on for more than 60 years!!! cubans are still living on terrible conditions and you're trying to paint it in a romantic way nO. americans with latino descendence don't know, don't even imagine how much latin americans suffer and you are NOT latino, stop trying to be, YOU ARE AMERICAN (in some way i do understand if you feel too american for latinos and viceversa but sTILL)
on the other hand, i did enjoy how the story evolved, the things they needed to resolve were resolved by talking and expressing what they felt; it's sad and tearful that they both lost their husbands yet they maintained strong and raised incredible women.
on the contrary, rosa wanted to prove her worth to her grandma and grow as a person by visiting cuba, her expectations going to dust when she receives disappointing news; nevertheless she gets to go to cuba for a whole different reason and it turns out to be even more fulfilling.
have to talk about alex and rosa's relationship it was extremely adoraBLE, i cannot, i don't even know what to say uGH. (the endING)
this is a hard story to rate, being a latina who did grow up in latin america; this book and what it's about gave me a headache but i did enjoy it apart from that and how cute it was.
