Another unique heroine from Charlaine Harris. I like the alternate history with a touch of magic background.

I’ve really enjoyed several series by Charlaine Harris, but I can’t remember ever reading a dystopian book by her. This one was a great read, with the remnants of the US in a western-like world of highway bandits and fast shooters. I think if I’d read that description before reading: I might not have read it. But I really enjoyed it and look forward to more books in this world.

This is a great book. Development of the world and magic is interesting and different.

Fast, engaging and easy read. But have I mentioned how much I hate first person present tense? /sigh/ Still read it in two days though. ;)

The first 4 chapters I liked a lot. It was gory and thrilling and you were shipping Lizbeth the whole way. Her team was more a background noise than characters in their own but it was obviously because they were meant to enhance Lizbeth’s character and give her depth. I have not read the short story this book grew out from but what I gather is that the journey in chapters 1-4 was it and after that is the add-on.
