Technically a reread. This is a perfect first trade for the Canon comics. Jason Aaron has every major voice down pat.

This was so much fun to read. The action was amazing and the characters were so true to how they are in the movies (both in how they act and how they have been wonderfully illustrated). The appearances of so many great characters was an amazing choice and and there are plenty of great moments to keep readers entertained and engaged.

(I read the single issues - not the volume).

Though at first I was disappointed because I thought it would pick up after Return of the Jedi (it's set between A New Hope and The Empire Strikes Back) but once I was involved in the series I just couldn't put it down.

It's well put-together and it was a great introduction into the New Canon of Star Wars for me.

At times the I felt like the story was dragging, but only on a few occasions.

In the aftermath of A New Hope, The Rebellion is struggling to get along. When Luke Skywalker comes face to face with Darth Vader on a raid, his destiny takes a turn. Who will the Empire send after him? And who is the mysterious woman stalking Han Solo?

Imagine my surprise when I returned from the inescapable Christmas morass to find this sitting in my cube.

Confession time: There were several times in my life when I binged on everything Star Wars. I've got a hundred or so action figures in a box in my basement and I've read quite a few of the Expanded Universe novels. I wasn't planning on reading this since I thought Dark Empire and Dark Empire II sucked and haven't been up for Star Wars comics much after that.

Jason Aaron's tale hit all the right beats and actually felt like a Star Wars comic rather than a comic that happened to have Star Wars characters in it. I liked the Boba Fett subplot but I loved the revelation of who was stalking Han Solo. I thought there may have been a few too many shout outs to Return of the Jedi, though, with the speeder bikes and the garb that resembled Lando's disguise.

John Cassady's artwork was spot-on for the most part, although I thought his Darth Vader could use a little work. He did a good job on the Big Three's faces, however, and did a great job on the action.

Overall, I think this volume did a good job at building the beginning of the bridge between Episodes IV and V and I'll be ready to take on more, should they cross my path. 3.5 out of 5. The Force is strong with this one.

I’m a casual Star Wars fan, and I found this graphic novel fantastic. The art was stunningly good and the characterisations totally perfect - I could tell which characters were speaking even when they weren’t visible, just by the way they spoke. The layouts were great - plenty of interest but still easy to follow. And the story was good too - loads of action, each character acting as you would expect, and it feels a genuine part of the Star Wars universe. Bloody brilliant.

Great Segway arc

Very good continuation of episode 4 into episode 5. Lots of good plot points filled! Love the art work and getting to see some of the adventures the “crew” went on together.
