One of Connelly's best. The action flowed well, the characters were well drawn and the suspense was maintainted throughout.

This was a really good book. I really enjoyed how it bounced between two seemingly different stories, before it showed its path of merging. I am a little confused about the very ending, but still a really great story.

Second Connelly book I've read... what a page-turner! And not totally brainless. I read it in two days and didn't want to put it down. The ending was a *bit* anti-climactic, though. I'll definitely read more from him.

I am working my through the "Harry Bosch Universe" and this second book featuring Jack McEvoy turned out to be one of my favorites. H0pe to see Jack return one day.

3.5 Stars. Connelly has a really strong storytelling ability and is well versed in the tropes and characterizations he needs to portray to keep the reader happy. I liked that those came through with the characters, and that there were some familiarity with the circumstances here. It was not a Bocsh book, but was close in feeling and complexity to read as well.

Thriller about an investigative reporter and FBI agent love interest chasing a tech-savvy serial torturer and killer of women. Kept me turning the pages to see how they would catch the bad guy (a how-catch-them not a who-done-it) with a quick paced journalistic style. The psychology of the killer and those hunting him, like the writing in general has enough detail to convince and intrigue but not too much to bog down the pace of the investigation and action sequences.

Loved this book and finished in one day-love the Jack McEvoy series. Brilliant writing by Connelly---get the audio as Peter Giles is outstanding!

McEvoy is at the end of the line as a crime reporter. Forced to take a buy-out from the Los Angeles Times as the newspaper grapples with dwindling revenues, he's got only a few days left on the job. His last assignment? Training his replacement, a low-cost reporter just out of journalism school. But Jack has other plans for his exit. He is going to go out with a bang--a final story that will win the newspaper journalism's highest honor a Pulitzer prize.
