So much horror and sadness in such a small book. I easily forget how harrowing this events were. Even so, this book sprinkled a little hope and light on such a dark time! Highly recommend but be ready to be brought to tears on multiple occasions and for multiple reasons.

In my opinion, this was better to listen to than read. I had both the audio and print versions and went back and forth between them. I agree with some of the others reviewers that the writing itself was often flat and clipped. The story, however, is rich and I think the narrator was able to evoke and develop that richness in a way the words alone did not. Like any account of the holocaust, it is an inherently tragic story full of overwhelming loss and trauma, but within is also a story of hope, resilience, friendship, and love.
