I really liked the novel, up to the last 30 pages...that were completely grauitous, added nothing to the plot and quite frankly brough down a notch my overall enjoymet of the book.
I do really enjoy sex scenes that are functional to the plot, nice way to judge the way in which a writer approaches the topic and makes the character interaction evolve, but not as an appendix to the story...

this was an enjoyable read with characters i like. my only complaint is that they fell in love after one pleasant conversation. the first couple the king being an a hole. i understand the spent time off page but i think we should’ve seen it. we needed to see them get along for a bit.

This was captivating and gripping, I couldn´t keep my eyes off it. I would like to see the romance further explored in later installments, though I don´t know if this is going to happen. However, I enjoyed all the family interactions that blossomed, so I hope I´ll read book #2 soon. Lesto deserves some loving too.

I've read this book about a month ago and had a lot of stuff in between, so I'm afraid I've forgotten quite a bit about it, but I do remember that I had a lot of fun reading it, I'm absolutely willing to read this story again, and also the things I do remember character- and plotwise were pretty great, so even if I'm not sure about everything that happened, I'm still very convinced that it was a good book.
Allen is a lovely main character and I really liked how he went about doing things. He has his problems (like, the stuff he has to put up with, not stuff that I though was bad about him), is loyal, has his plans, and is trying so hard to do the right things. (Also I really liked how good he was at what he was doing: he actually felt like a character trained for this, and it was great.)
Sarrica is an idiot (because of course he is), but also has his heart at the right place, and the two of them could have probably fixed stuff sooner, but I was honestly really happy with how they talked past each other, because it did feel quite realistic for them.
Also the side characters made me quite happy, the friendships and familiar bonds (well, some of them anyway) were really well done (and while I love romance I'm also always a sucker for platonic relationships and nothing can convince me quite as fast as a character willing to do anything to protect their friends/family), and the diversity of the characters was so great. I was smiling so often about how many different characters showed up. Especially the trans rep just made me so happy, because all these people are just there. Very obviously trans, but it's not a topic at all, and same for poly couples or different sexual orientations in general, and... it was just so nice to read about.
So while I don't remember everything, I do remember that I loved it and I'm also very sure I will read it again. (I also think I had some small issues, so not quite 5 stars, but I that didn't change how much I enjoyed it.)

Ok this was a surprise, I’m not a huge political intrigue fan but this had just enough of it mixed with characters driving the story to that made me enjoy it.
It probably won’t be for everyone because lots of people like politics in fantasy, but I was happy with what I got honestly. I’m less interested in the court in fantasy and more in the characters and adventures, so it really was surprising I enjoyed this so much.
The biggest part of this book for me is that gender really didn’t matter? There were multiple characters that were trans and treated as anyone else (THANK YOU), and nobody cared about same sex couples either. This is how you do representation in fantasy, because if you can create any world you want why the hell would you put homophobia in it for fun?
