I’m not much of a cat person (I’m allergic, so have never spent a lot of time around them), but I still found this collection of vignettes about the various cats Herriot has come across both in his private and professional life as a veterinary surgeon in Yorkshire just charming. I fell in love with Herriot’s first memoir, All Creatures Great and Small, and read his next two eagerly. This slim volume concentrates specifically on his feline friends (and patients). The stories are brief and tender and funny and touching.

I listened to the audio version, read by Christopher Timothy. I found his delivery painfully slow to my ears. I suspect I would have read the traditional format in about 90 minutes, but the audio book takes 3 discs and 3 hours, and I found my attention wandering.

These books are so heartwarming. Sometimes all you want is to read some cute stories about cats 🩷

I love cats, and Mr. Herriot loves cats as well. I love his humorous and heartwarming stories. My favorite feline characters in this book are Olly and Ginger.

For my first James Herriot book, this was anything but a disappointment! Sweet, with bits of sadness filled with warmth, these stories made me smile. Mr Herriot was clearly a wonderful storyteller!

Got this book to read with Lillian, who enjoyed it based her desire to read it night  after night instead of alternating with her own pick. But, we accidentally traumatized our friend who was babysitting when she had to read the story 'Frisk' in which the cat had multiple brushes with death and the owner died at the end... So maybe not suitable for all kids.
