While I still feel, as a complete outsider, that this manga should not really be said to be about deafness (yet anyway), the story does continue to develop the themes of childhood bullying. Not accepting easy answers, a few snags are thrown in Shoya's plans to redeem himself. Shoko's character does get a chance to develop a little bit as well, but whatever the plot is doing does feel a bit touch and go. The end is pretty sweet.

As always, I loved this but it did feel slightly rushed and confused at times. I'm hoping vol 4 will make more sense!

Moderate: Bullying
continues to be impressively nuanced and emotionally captivating! i liked the contrast between the two former classmates, and the question of ~what friendship actually is~. can't wait for the two main characters to actually properly get to know each other!!
L'histoire est prenante... mais je viens TELLEMENT fâchée après certains personnages... j'espère que ce sera nuancé.
That Ueno-- girl is still as bad as she was 5 years ago shallow and careless but I LOVEEE this manga!!!
This story just consistently manages to make me cry. I really happen to enjoy Yuzuru's character, I thought she was both extremely trollish and just a nice reminder that Ishida still has a ways to go in making amends. This also went into a romance angle, which I will admit to not entirely being comfortable with, mainly because it doesn't really make sense.
3.75/5 stars
A satisfying volume, but not as good as volume 2. Especially because of Naoko, that girl is a nuisance.
But what is up with that ending?? Shoko, you're a dumb dumb boy. I love Nishimiya's sister's character growth through this book.

*spoiler* Tu me plais??

Wow, I guess it was inevitable that other classmates from elementary school would join this cast. But the character development of our current cast with these new additions is definitely fascinating, especially with regard to the varied dynamics of the relationships: a positive one for Shoko and a more... neutral-ish(?) one for Shoya.
This series is proving to be very encompassing, and I can easily see why it would be made into a film. Why a film instead of an anime is anybody's guess, but I'm hoping that they will be able to show all of the dynamics and the character development within that span of film time.
Here's looking forward to the next volume, especially after THAT kind of cliffhanger of an ending.
