I honestly hate that you spend the whole book getting to know these characters through the eyes of Death just to have your heart ripped out in the last chapters.

I  enjoyed this book. It deserves a higher rating. But it was slow and sometimes I struggled with how slow it was and wanted more

Quite an interesting concept seeing the war through the eyes of death.
However I felt it sometimes swayed away from my attention when it would focus on Leslie and her friends when I thought it be more about the whole war as a whole.
Don’t get me wrong it did involve the war but it was mainly focused around the little girls journey through the war, would have liked to seen Death go around everywhere and us as readers experience deaths works.
Either way, a fantastic book and a heavy hearted ending

More often than not, when I read a book on one of those “Books That Everyone Should Read” lists, I find myself scratching my head. The latest novel to fall into that category is The Book Thief by Markus Zusak.
The plot sounded intriguing (set in Nazi Germany and narrated by Death), and the writing was easy to read, but the storytelling style was more like short stories or a series of anecdotes, and that just didn’t work for me. I found it bland, way too long and slow-paced.
However, don’t listen to me and find other reviews because most people really liked this one.

I hate that I read this book. But also glad I did. I’m too emotionally distraught to write an eloquent review, so I’ll just say - my heart hurts with both the beauty of the words and the destruction of them.
