5/5 ⭐️
2/5 🌶
*Fool Me Once is book 3 in the New Englad Bay Sharks series and is an interconnected standalone. While not necessary to read books 1 & 2 first, characters and history may make more sense*
Smith lets go of the one thing he loves after her father convinces him he's not good enough and she deserves better. Years pass, and when he finally sees Gemma again, he's willing to do anything and everything to ever let her go again.
If there's one thing Hannah knows how to do, it break your heart and put it together in the best way possible with her stories. I've loved watching the evolution of her writing from reading her first college series to her pro series. Smith, doing everything and anything to protect Gemma and win her back while bringing out the girl she used to be, was so perfect. I love a found family and girl group, so I loved Sailor and Gemmas friendship on top of Smith's hockey team. I can't wait to see what Hannah has in store for the rest of the series!
Tropes:
✔️ Pro Hockey Romance
✔️ Heroine On The Run
✔️ Best Friend's Brother
✔️ Fake Dating
✔️ Second Chance
✔️ Forced Proximity
✔️ Who Hurt You?
✔️ Slow Burn

SPOILERS:
The domestic abuse was written with wonderful sensitivity. I kept waiting for a big explosive moment with the ex and was pleasantly surprised and RELIEVED that there was no unnecessary trauma/3rd act break up for our FMC. This might be my favorite book so far in the series and I can’t wait for Ryder and Sails story.

Sex scenes were too cringe-y for me.

The second I read the prologue, I knew this book was going to be 5 stars. It definitely lived up to it. I am obsessed with Hannah’s writing, and then you add in hot hockey guys?! Sign me up! I love how Hannah writes an amazing hockey love story, but also includes real life issues that people deal with. It reminds me that even though we all love a fairytale love story, sometimes you go through different things to come out on the other side. In this story, Gemma was a victim of domestic violence, and it took her a while to leave. Thankfully, she made it to safety. She found a safe space with Smith and they rekindled their relationship. Their story was beautiful, as he allowed her time to heal on her own time. As a victim myself, of domestic violence, this story was beautiful and I love how Gemma is now working to help others in the same situation that she was in.
