I don’t know what I expected from a contemporary adaptation of Little Women by the author of After, but I was not prepared for it to be THAT horny. And not in a fun horny way, it was weird horny.

I wanted to like this book. The premise seemed like I would, a retelling of Little Women (yes please!). The first couple of chapters started out promising enough but it went downhill from there. The conflicting character descriptions, the out of touch with reality of what goes on in the real world conflicting with the need to have the characters “in touch” with the world. Todd also just took the surface qualities of what made the March women and decided to not take anything that was real about the women, especially with the matriarch. Then one of the turning points of the book, Beth’s death, doesn’t even happen. And the last ten pages feel like a roller coaster ride of conflicting emotions and just a bandaid for an ending.

A autora apresenta-nos este livro como um livro inspirado em Mulherzinhas, mas sinceramente, a única coisa que ela fez foi destruir os personagens mais queridos da história. Acho que só Jo, Laurie e Beth é que se safaram porque de resto ela arrasou-os a todos. Desde colocar Meg como uma slut a descrever a Mãe como uma bebeda, acho que ela foi um pouco longe demais. Se tirar da equação o facto de ter sido inspirado nesse livro, é apenas um young adult mediocre sem nada a acrescer ao mercado literário. Lamento ter esta opinião, mas acho que a Anna Todd só se quis aproveitar do grande nome “Mulherzinhas” para alavancar este livro e, na minha opinião só fez pior
I loved this unique and thoughtful modern Little Women adaptation.
Love Cassandra Campbell (one of the narrators). My favorite childhood book, Little Women. An entertaining Modern-Day Retelling. Highly recommend the audiobook.
