This book is an insult to Little Women, Louisa May Alcott, the US Army and the female gender. That is all.

I would have given this a lower rating but I liked Beth, Jo, and Meg in this novelization. I didn't like their foul language or some of the choices they made, but they were "OKAY" like the two-star rating says, and I have always been a sucker for the Jo/Laurie pairing.

That being said, I did not like the way the prose was written. Nobody talks the way they do in real life (ie, "he tasted like danger and cigarettes"), I did not like how Jo kept saying "I am not like other girls", and proceeded to say "other girls" watched Gossip Girl. I am not like other girls myself, and Gossip Girl will always be one of my favorite shows EVER. I didn't like the characterization of John Brooke, or how Meg did not end up with him in the end. I liked Shia just fine (even though his name was kind of STUPID, and he hit on Meg RIGHT after breaking up with Bell). I really wish Beth hadn't been hinted to be a lesbian, just because it didn't make sense to her character in this book. But I am happy she didn't die. Also, it ended rather abruptly, things with Amy should have come to light right in the middle and been addressed accordingly. I hated that they called their mother by her given name, and that her alcoholism was never addressed. The plot as a whole needed to be a little more fleshed out.

This was my first "Wattpad" book, I can't say I'll ever pick up another one. But kudos to Anna Todd for making a name for herself, I guess.

I may have given this just two stars if it weren’t for the lovable likeness of the Spring girls to the March girls. Todd’s writing is overly simple and too informal at times. I’m sure it was difficult to follow the original story line but her take on the story left me wanting more.

I loved the different personalities the characters, there was such a fluent round of strengths and weaknesses with each of them. although, I don't know if it's just me but, I would have liked to find the characters in more situations, situations that would have made them grow, develop and bloom to be a better human being. I did hope to find one thing- to have little moments throughout everything they were going through. you know like the simple mundane moments that make life worth living? I felt that as each of the characters was going through one thing after the other, it felt a bit too rushed and fast-paced, personally speaking, it didn't connect me to the book as much as it could have. there are a lot of things I WISH this book was about but alas, it isn't and so many things could be better but oh well. all in all, I think the one thing that was good was on having a symbol to be who you are. most importantly, for being yourself because there will only ever be one of you in the whole world ;)

As soon as I saw The Spring Girls was a retelling of Little Women I knew I had to read it. Plus the coverage is gorgeous. Well, that is the only good thing I have to say about it. For me, this book did not capture the spark and magic of what makes Little Women great.

No, no e no. Come demolire un classico senza tempo.

I. Cannot.

This was absolutely awful. Anna Todd tried to do a retelling of Little Women and failed to the Nth degree. The only similarities to Louisa May Alcott’s classic were the names of the girls.

I hated them all. Marmee (“Meredith” in this shitty excuse of a “retelling”) was weird. Meg was materialistic and shallow. Beth has basically no personality. Amy was a spoiled brat who yelled at everyone. And Jo — my favorite, my soul-sister — was a fiery-tempered, nasty-bitch, mean girl.

NO THANK YOU.

Anna Todd ruined what could’ve been a very interesting retelling.

Also the editing was AWFUL. Here is an example of a sentence that made me want to punch the editors (or lack thereof):

“He was a stranger who most people had something bad to say about.”

Ummm... what?!

Again... NO THANK YOU. I could write — and edit other people’s writing — better than that when I was 16, thank you very much. God.

So yes:

• Plot: 0/5 stars
• Characters: 0/5 stars
• Writing: 0/5 stars

Clearly, I do not recommend this.

I rarely take the time to write a negative review, but if the author is going to take the time to write horrible retelling of a classic, I figured I might as well.

Nope, retelling? That’s not right. It’s a whole rewrite. At this point, she just took the name of the characters from Little Women and slapped it on the caricatures that she created.

What’s sad is that there was so much promise in the premise of the four little March girls on a modern day military base and nothing came of it.

What a waste.
