This book was a breath of fresh air. Takes a look into schools across the country implementing innovative programs to diversify education. Lots of individual personal stories highlighted.

Writing this review as a teacher. If I were an admin and took on the district to change to one of the ideas mentioned in the book, I'd probably give it 5 stars.
The ideas used by some of the schools in this book are fantastic. Teachers know our system is broken. Why do we stay? The kids. We know the kids need us. But this pre-world war II way of education is severely hurting our students. Reading this book just gets me angry because WE KNOW we need something different. Its our districts who mismanage funds so even our antiquated educational model won't work because of low-staffing.
The book is good, but brought me down. Don't read if you already know we need a change. Read if you are in a position of MAKING a change.

Bailing. Some good ideas, but, as an educator, I think he misses the mark on many points. I also hate when someone with zero background in Ed thinks that they can do my job better than someone with a degree and background in the field.

Schools won't change from the top. They'll change one classroom, one school, one district at a time. And local change is achievable change.
[b:What School Could Be: Insights and Inspiration from Teachers across America|38488585|What School Could Be Insights and Inspiration from Teachers across America|Ted Dintersmith|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1518404650s/38488585.jpg|60126564] is an engaging introduction to the conversation about what schools could be doing differently to prepare young people for the future. Although Ted Dintersmith's book is very American, there are still points he raises that are relevant to teaching worldwide.
The anecdotes were inspiring and show that it is possible to change the system one classroom at a time instead of waiting for policy changes.
He mentions a few times that there will be a myriad of opportunities in the future for those who know how to leverage machine intelligence, but I would have liked for him to explore what this would look like.
This is a great discussion starter!
Thank you to Netgalley, the author and the publisher for a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Thoroughly enjoyed this book on the ills of the American education system, and the incredible opportunities for change that become more real each day.
