I definitely feel like I'm missing 90% of the references in this, which takes away from the enjoyment for me. The one reference I did get was exciting so if you like image comics, you'll probably enjoy it more. overall a neat idea that feels a bit all over the place at times and could have been executed better. Ending was kinda cool, but don't think I'm going to bother with vol 2 since the series is on hold.

Donny Cates is rapidly rising in my list of favorite comic book writers, and I am thrilled to progress through his other creator-owned stories. Redneck was fantastic! With Crossover, he gets to play with soooo many "toys" (aka Intellectual Properties - comic book characters from many publishers and creators).
I wrongly guessed, it seems, that the title of this volume - "Kids Love Chains" - would get to eventually introduce or allude to Pitt, which was one of my favorite early Image comics, when I was the age of the protagonist wimpy kid who starts turning into a massive monstrous fighter with chains wrapped around his forearms and grungy plaid tattered garments. So far I don't think we've seen him, but soo many other characters, only about half of whom I recognized.

Read for the Realm of Comics bookclub - I don't think this was a comic for me, as a not big comic reader this felt like a comic for lovers of making comics. I just couldn't really get invested in the world or the characters.

even without the deep love and knowledge of comic book history this was a charming and thrilling introduction.
