This was a less enjoyable, fantasy retelling of You’ve Got Mail but without the charismatic draw between the MCs. I’m having a hard time deciding if the writing was choppy, or if the narration did a greater disservice to the book. Overall, I didn’t feel any connection or draw to any of the characters and the story was disappointing.

This book is eqsily one of the best books I’ve read this year. It took me on an emotional rollercoaster and I loved every moment of it.

One of my favorite tropes when the MCs hate each other but talking to each other without knowing who the other is.

Feeling the full spectrum of emotions from the highs of the two friends’ exchanged letters and honest communications, to the lows of how they struggled with the challenges of their day to day lives and their hatred towards each other.

For me this was 5+⭐️ read, easily.
It was full of emotions, the plot was interesting, though maybe a big slowly paced at the first half, but the second half really picked it up and things went on quickly from there.
The characters had really good chemistry.
I liked that Mercy didn’t need Hart to solve her problem, she and Lil were able to ‘take down the man’ themselves.

There are only a few books that made me cry so hard, like this did when Hart went on his mission and he was brought back to Mercy and the nimkilim got there to deliver his last letter and how he reacted. That freaking broke me…

This was a nice little romance in a strange built world with demigods and weird death stuff. The romance is based on a somewhat magical pen pal relationship. Cute enough book that I enjoyed.

i do love me a silly little predictable enemies (idiots) to lovers book

So sweet!! Made me tear up at the end

The Undertaking of Hart and Mercy is a slow-burn, enemies-to-lovers romance set in a fantastical world with reanimated corpses, demigods, and witty mythical creatures. One of the protagonists, Mercy, is struggling to keep her father’s undertaking business afloat. Our second protagonist, Hart, is a demigod who patrols for possessed corpses, killing them and delivering them to undertakers. The two start off loathing each other but a happy accident leads to them exchanging a series of anonymous letters. Through their blind correspondence, they get to know each other and form a deep connection. There are a few bumps along the way but eventually they realize who they’ve been writing to all along and sparks fly.

The protagonists and supporting characters were lovable, hilarious and compelling. Everyone felt like family—the town was like a magical Stars Hollow. I adored Hart and Mercy’s relationship, they had so much respect for one another and thoughtfully explore grief, love, life and death together. If you want swoon-worthy sweetness, passion and an intriguing fantasy world, this is the book for you
