I enjoyed the cute fantasy/zombie/You've Got Mail plotline in this book.

This freaking book man…. THIS FREAKING BOOK!!!!

It was a rollercoaster of emotions, I was giddy, I was blushing, I was snickering, I was cringing, I was mad, I was sad.

Urgggg I have no other words but readddddd

The plot, the characters, and the beautiful world this author has created will live in my head rent free for the rest of my life.

This book started slow but then grew into an enjoyable if predictable romance. I loved the presence of death and grief, almost as characters themselves, and the world building was fun!

this was really fun! it didn’t change my life but i had a good time. someone pitched this as a ghibli inspired sci-fi zombie western, and while they weren’t technically wrong, i did find the world building a little clumsy. however, the relationships and characters were lovely and endearing and i genuinely ended up caring about hart and mercy.

such a small complaint but the constant swearing really threw me out of the story a few times. i don’t care about it in contemporary books but there’s something about it in fantasy that feels a bit too forced at times. the writing in general was just okay, but the plot and pacing kept me hooked.

all in all a fun, morbidly charming romance. can truly say i’ve never read anything like it, would like to see what the author does next.

I wasn't sure what to expect when I first started reading this. The popular opinion was that it was a good book--different, but good--so I was hopeful. And boy, did it ever deliver! It was different, but I enjoyed every second of it. From the drudges (zombies) to softie Hart and colorful Mercy, to all the supporting characters. It was such a cozy joy to read! This book is like You've Got Mail (one scene was almost identical to the movie) but with zombies and undertakers and talking owls and rabbits and demigods. Just loved it!
