The audiobook completely elevated the story for me, thanks to narrator Angela Dawe, whose performance was committed and fully captivating, and made some of the wonkier elements of The Resting Place easier to overlook.

I actually had no major issue with the overall plot, and enjoyed majority of the reveals (except for one early on that felt like it was not 'concealed' at all, a key piece of information was made known very early and lessen the overall mystery). The writing flowed beautifully and really set up the wintry, isolated location (great job by translator Alexandra Fleming). It gives me the same vibe as Rachel Hawkins' The Villa, where the story is first and foremost a gothic mystery, and labeling it as a 'thriller' or 'horror' novel will most likely set the wrong expectation.

Overall, I had a surprisingly good time! The Resting Place is formulaic, but done so with style. I would've liked more element of the prosopagnosia condition incorporated (it kind of drifts in and out whenever it's needed for the plot), and the 'mentally unstable female lead' trope can get a bit grating at times, but I enjoyed it more than the online reviews suggest otherwise.

Maybe I'll give The Lost Village a try.

Compelling reading, always interesting and very atmospheric!
I just felt that some minor questions were left unanswered:
Spoilerdid Eleanor’s family kept the property? I mean, it’s not like Viviane/Annika was the lawful wife… And did the lawyer even survive? Did Carina know that Viviane/Annika didn’t actually kill her mother?

What a disappointing ending. So much of this made no sense to me. But I had to give it 3 stars because it did hold enough tension and "who-done-it" to keep my listening to the end. But
I feel like Eleanor learned nothing. She didnt grow from the experience, she continued the illusion that her grandmother loved her, and seemed to not even discover the truth, even though she was THIS CLOSE to putting it all together.
I just found all the characters frustrating, the twist was for the most part predictable, and the unpredictable parts were ... dumb lol.

The first chapter mentioned the main character has face blinded ness and I should’ve trusted my instinct to immediately DNF. It really was not a good horror or thriller. Unless I hear really good things about the authors new books, I think I’m done with this author.

This is my fifth book by Camilla Sten & just like all of her other books The Resting Place was another spine tingling page turner! This author has become one of my auto buys for me! I still have aways to go before I get through all of her books but every book I read just makes me want to read more! Camilla Sten just has a way of capturing her reads from the first page!
I really enjoyed the diary entries in this book! And let me just say that is one messed up grandma! The twists & turns & the suspense is great! The final twist at the end, really didn't see that coming! Could you imagine having face blindness & witnessing a murder? The murderer could be standing in front of you & you wouldnt even know it! I started this book at 11am on Tuesday & was finished 13 hours later! I couldn't put it down! Great read! Thank you St. Martins Press for sharing another great read with me!
