I get it is splatterpunk. But it just felt like it was going for shock value without much meat to the story. Just not what I would want to read more of. The gore is fine, but I would want more of a story.
DNF at 40% probably should have DNF’ed wayyyyy before but the morbid curiosity just got to me. I read the trigger warnings and I continued reading. The gore was great, don’t get me wrong! But I just hated the incest and the gross bathroom stuff. It was actually disgusting. Other than that it was just really boring 😭 I couldn’t get past the hangman scene because the characters and their reactions were so flat and so dumb it was like watching Twilight. The acting was so bad. I hated it lmao. I love gore and it doesn’t bother me at all, I mean I grew up with unlimited internet access, so I’m used to it. But that chapter about Mildred and that weird ass lady who ran the playground was absolutely disgusting and should have been burned right from the get go. The splatterpunk/horror genre def isn’t for me! The only good character that I feel was redeemable was Rock, and he was a victim. I actually thought the chapter where he killed Donnie’s mom was heroic and kinda sweet lmao ANYWAY! And Donnie was cute too. Poor lil guy.
I don't know how to rate this book because I need an acid bath for my eyeballs. I love horror and extreme horror media, to an extent (there are some we don't talk about and can't unsee....iykyk), but I am unsure where on the iceberg this one belongs. One of the lower levels for sure, but which one, because there is worse than this.
There are two very graphic sex scenes which serve basically no point to the plot, so why are they there?
