I LOVED this book. Been in a bit of a reading slump where everything I read was a 2 star read - making me feel like a grouch reader. I put aside everything I thought I “should” be reading and read this in one shot instead. I loved the characters, laughed out loud multiple times and preordered the next book in the series before I even finished.
All that said - there were a few things I didn’t love. Making a note of them now so I remember for future conversations about this book.
- I feel like there was a part missing around Ace and tackle football. Before he met TK, we know this was an ongoing discussion/request that he wanted to play. He learns TK is his dad and at Mustangs training camp he ends up getting to practice with his dad and other players and he’s a total star. But doesn’t ask about playing again? I appreciate that TK said he would back Poppy’s decision - but I thought we would see that play out.
- I loved 95% of this book. The 5% I didn’t love occurs from 90%-95% through the book. Does Poppy really need to end things with TK in the hospital just moments after his injury?? That felt unnecessarily harsh. And then the pacing/timing of that whole part felt so rushed. I could see the end of the book coming and knew it had to get resolved - I’m very glad it did but it felt super rushed. I appreciated how much the book talked about dangers of football and brain injuries.
So - overall - still a total 5 star read for me - but just a couple things that felt off/missing for me. And I gladly would have read a few hundred more pages of the issue was fitting it all in!!

I thought this romance was okay. i love the way tk was able to integrate into poppy and ace’s life. i love to see how much tk tried to be a father and it was very endearing. but overall i just did not feel a lot of chemsitry between the poppy and tk. it felt a little insta-love. I love poppy and ace’s interaction, you can tell poppy really cares for her son. i just cannot give it anymore than a 3 star because something happened at the end that i do not love.

Someone said this was a Travis Kelce-inspired romance and well, I was curious! It was a quick audio listen but I thought it was cute.
