Just like watching a British crime drama! I could have done with all of the fat-shaming, though.

This book started out strong, but lost me the more it went on. The ending felt abrupt and incredibly unrealistic. Plus, the romance side plot was so completely unnecessary.

Excellent characterizations and good personal interactions.  I liked Ruth and her sensibilities very much.  I would have given this five stars if I hadn’t been able to guess the murderer half-way through.

I read this because my Goodreads friend PlumCrazy recommends this series, and I liked it a lot. As you can see, this is the first in the series, and I'm looking forward to reading more! Ruth Galloway is a Vera Stanhope-like character (she's a forensic archeologist rather than a cop, though).
