I read this because I love the TV series. I am happy to report that the TV show is the superior product. I think the changes made greatly enhance the source material and further explore elements that this book only hints at.
This read was mostly interesting as a point of comparison to the show and because a friend was reading them. (I am not trying to convince them to watch the show😝)

I really enjoyed is book and this book reminds me of a dowry of blood by S.T. Gibson also I think people who like Carmilla by J. Sheridan Le Fanu or bury our bones in the midnight soil by V.E. Schwab may like is book. The writing was great, but it took some time to get used to also the ending was perfect. The atmosphere was well done and very gothic also the book had a strong start. The paced of plot was well structured and steady paced. Most of the characters were both messy but complex and I found them to be interesting. The most relationship between all the characters was both very toxic and complex but interesting also I really like the tension between Lestat and Louis.

I came to this novel as a (big) fan of the tv series, knowing that many elements were changed from the original. Even with the changes, I feel the show has kept the heart of the novel intact.
The prose was gorgeous and heart wrenching, but it became excessive at times. Louis’ passivity, though acknowledged in the text, became grating and highlighted how unrealized his character was. After pages of brooding, the events of the latter half felt rushed. Still, I enjoyed reading the novel that brought vampires back into the public eye.
