Excellent writing, but I removed a star due to the racism (towards Blacks and immigrants) and the p*dophilia. It was mostly the three protagonists who were responsible for it and it was, for the most part, portrayed as acceptable. Much of it was set in a time period when that would have been commonplace, but the author went too far with it.

There was good LGBTQ+ representation, however, and the ethics of vampire nature and immortality were interesting.

It sounds like the movie expanded upon the characters and made the content more acceptable for modern day, so I think I'll give it a try.

So this is actually the book that sent me into a 5-ish-month reading slump because I found it so boring, but I'm actually happy to have finished it because now I can watch the movies and TV shows based off this story (I do not know why I insist on having this rule for myself...). As for vampire books I haven't found anything remarkable in Interview with the Vampire, and it's a shame that this book wasn't as gay as I thought it would be (I hoped that this would be a tragic love story between Louis and Lestat). In fact, I found the whole concept of "love" in this book to be bizarre. I never know when someone truly loves anyone, and when I do it's horribly sinister.

What I found most interesting is Louis's moral dilemma with being a vampire. Tirelessly, he goes on and on about his despair, that this is perhaps the only vampire book I've read that has really made me reflect on what it would be like to be a vampire. I must admit that I have until this point romanticized immortality, but Louis completely kills it.

In any case, I hear the succeeding books are better, so I think I'll read the next one. 3/5 stars
