To be honest when I first started reading this book I wasn’t sure that I would like it. It even took me a good minute before I was fully invested; however, thinking about it that might have been due to some insane intuition telling me this book was going to be equally beautiful and devastating. Damnation Spring is an amazing read. Highly recommend.
I wish I could say that I enjoyed this one. It was a beautifully written debut, and so relevant in today’s atmosphere of climate crisis. But dear God was it boring. At over 400 pages, at least a quarter of this book could have been trimmed off given Davidson’s tendency to write detail after detail. Some details are pretty descriptions, some are technical logging jargon, and all bogged down the pacing. This was a book I seriously considered DNFing. Instead, I started skimming at the halfway point, picking through the relevant parts of the story and reading/enjoying some passages of lovely prose.
Davidson is a talented writer, and perhaps a more patient reader would appreciate this literary fiction more than I did.

I loved the premise of this book. As someone who is concerned with all of the toxins and chemicals in our every day items, this book seemed right up my alley. This book started out a little slow but I quickly became invested in Colleen's story of infertility. I found Rich's story about his work to be a little bit of a drag. I continued reading hoping for answers for the people and wanted to see what would happen for the families near this spring. I was also hoping for more definite answers and solutions upon the ending of this book. I did not feel like I got the closure that I needed to truly say that I loved this book.
