“I want him to know I'm going to spend the rest of my life showing him the good. That I'll give him anything. Everything. That I'm his to command. His to rule over, to punish, to love. Just his.”

….

Dear Rebecca. Your the gift that keeps on giving and giving to us.

I feel this one was a very delicate one from them all you given us. The roots ran so deep. I felt this one is for the ones that are just trying to survive in this thing we call life, running in a world that doesn’t make it easy on any of us.

Altering events. Hard decisions. Heartbreak. Selflessness. Deep love. Care. Soulmates.

And so much healing. This book is healing.

I hope you give it a chance and learn about Silas and Gideon.

….

“…the boy with messy dark hair and freckles, who kissed me like I meant something to him, then tore the rug out from under me like it never happened.” // “It's your fault I'm like this." // “It's like standing at the edge of a cliff, wanting to leap, but knowing I can't make it over the gap.” // “Because the moment his lips touched mine, a new world of possibility was opened. I wasn't merely kissing a boy and confirming something about myself that I'd always been afraid of. I was kissing him.” // “Don’t.” // “Or whatever.” // “Silas and I are in this for the long run. Our paths and hearts are so wrapped around each other, there’s no way out of it. We’re inevitable.”

Wanted to love and did love so much of this book but some of it fell flat too.
This is a good mix of the try line with wife's brother and the religious trauma of man on.
The miscommunication in the beginning was hard to get through, the pining and slow burn then felt a bit like a let down somehow when all was revealed.
As always, impeccable writing and heart in Rebecca's books and this is no exception. One of the best series

Gideon and Silas come from an extremely religious background, both leaving that world for different reasons, but similar exit strategy - hockey. I don’t want to say too much more about that because some may find it a tad spoilery. I will say that this was fairly predictable for me; but that thing that happens closer to the finish line? I didn’t really see that coming.

Religious trauma is different for many people, so I advise those who have experienced it to read the content warnings and proceed with caution. This is not an end all be all depiction of those with faith, but unfortunately this is a reality for some. It was nice to see them able to find their way out of that life and start building their own.

This book teased the line of the miscommunication trope. All of the angst in the first half of the book could have been solved with a good one on one (on one?) between Gideon, Silas, and Lily. I had to remind myself that these are 20, 21 year olds with religious trauma, so realistically their misunderstandings could have probably happened this way? On top of that, they had to leave the only life they’ve ever known, and navigate the world on their own, with a young one in tow to boot. I just wish Gideon would have been more receptive to hearing them out, and that they also would have been a bit more forthcoming.

I really wanted to like this one more than I did, but alas, this was not a win for me. I can see some people really enjoying this. Rebecca has written some bangers that I’ve really enjoyed, but unfortunately this wasn’t one of them for me.

I received an ARC of this book and this is my honest review.

So I went into this blind as I’ve loved every book in this series and did not see the religious themes in this book coming. Honestly it might have stopped me from reading, but it shouldn’t have. It was so good, and so well done.

Gideon, Silas, and even Lily have been through so much and the family create is amazing.

I will admit during the first bit I was screaming to just TALK ALREADY. But that wasn’t too long.

The only thing that could have made this better was if it was ANY team except the Flames 🤣

Highly recommend this book!!
