This book would definitely be a 3.5 for me. I had a hard time getting into it at first because all of the characters are horrible people (transphobic, racist, etc.) but after finishing it I think that is the only way this book would work. If you were rooting for these characters you wouldn’t be able to make it to the end of this book without dnf-ing it. Very dark and gruesome book and I definitely liked Survivor better but still decent.

DID NOT FINISH

I was disappointed with this book, sadly. It is going into my DNF and I'm writing a review because I made it a little over 65% through the book, and this book was slow and boring. I liked it at first but it soon felt like a chore and I found myself wanting to skip the plot and go straight to reading the separate stories and poems throughout. I didn't like how none of the characters had real names and it made my brain hurt with how many of these "no-named" characters there were and I couldn't keep up.

i like that the author said thank you at the end. such a gross lil book it’s actually vile no one is likeable but it was such a good read. ending was very satisfying even though it wasn’t what i expected. didn’t like the poems though - the font was hard to read.

edit: i have upgraded my rating to five stars because i have not been able to stop thinking about this book since i read it. it’s so wonderfully crafted and the short stories pop into my head all the time. i adore it it’s easily one of my favourite books i’ve ever read.

this is disgusting, i love it

Wild ride, most of the individual stories are engaging and interesting. Overarching plot is wild, crazy, disgusting, as is expected from Palahniuk. Pacing seemed uneven for me, and lack resolution turned me off a little. Still, if you like any of his work, it’s worth a read.
