Hazel is a private investigator and is given a case involving a missing 12 year old girl named Mia. This is Hazel’s first big case and there’s a lot on the line. I loved Hazel’s character. She was funny, bad ass, sarcastic, serious & gullible.
While trying to solve Mia’s disappearance, she discovers that many other girls have gone missing from the same orphanage. Hazel begins to untangle it all, and it seems like just about anyone could be the culprit. I did feel that parts of the story weren’t realistic & that the ending wrapped up too quickly.

I enjoyed this book. It had all the dressings of a popcorn thriller. Red herrings (but not too many), shady characters, police that can't (or won't) help, and a private investigator who solves a seemingly impossible case.
Hazel was a typical PI character. She digs way too hard, pokes her nose everywhere, and gets herself into trouble. I usually don't figure out who did it, but I did with this one. It wasn't wildly predictable, so it was still a fun read, but just predictable enough to still feel satisfied with the conclusion.
Possible spoilers
Content warnings, attempted SA on page, child abuse, child molestation (implied but not directly on page) and drugging of women and children.
3.5 🌟

Not the worst book I've read, but not the best. Was it on the edge of your seat, biting nails, can't sleep til I read more? Most definitely not, but a pretty quick read and a good story, there was just something about it that was missing to make it a great story. I will probably pick up more from this author though (but won't go out of my way to find it), as I'm sure the more they write, the better the stories will be.

Hours later I realized there was a major loose end. A second book maybe?
