This sequel is entertaining— like watching trashy reality tv.

The concept is interesting— what would the United States be like politically and socially if we had a monarchy instead of a democracy? It’s fun to imagine an American royal wedding, similar to the type and spectacle that the British royals have.

There is plenty of drama, scheming and social climbing, jealousy, and LOTS of ex boyfriends.

Most of the characters end up seeming very fickle, with their romantic interests from the first book being quickly forgotten for new loves in the second book. It was all a bit too perfect, after having a failed relationship in the first book for ALL the characters to instantly find someone extremely well matched for them. The conflicts all resolved themselves too nicely at the end of the book, so that they book ended with mostly all happy endings, pretty bows on each perfectly wrapped up storyline. The tropes were repetitive and fairly predictable.

If you want an easy, entertaining book you will probably enjoy this.

*3.5 stars!!

it was good but no where near as good as the first one. i hated who the characters ended up with and just the ending in general.

Such a good story! There were so many twists and turns. You fall in love with each character and cheer them on throughout the book, however you slightly hate them as well haha. Each character is so relatable and real. They all have so many loving aspects but do the stupidest stuff too! I cannot wait to read the third book and see where the story continues to go!

The drama in this book is addicting its so good! Both books in this series are good!

Honestly kinda felt like McGee was offended by and then based this book on that horrific 5,000,000 word review left on her first book by some girl furious and swearing and going ballistic because apparently the book didn't have any diversity (the main character Mexican girl with two moms didn't count because of reasons) and the entire premise was evil because even though it's fiction the idea of the US as a monarchy erased the bad parts of its history and the author was pretending slavery didn't exist (the parts where it was explicitly mentioned in the book didn't count because reasons) and this book was an insult to indigenous people and the lgbt community and literally every demographic that ever existed (yes there are problematic aspects to the premise but it's also fiction in a totally made up world) and the fact that nobody commented on her review meant it must be true (even though her comments were turned off...) and then at the end she admitted she hadn't actually read the book at all and was basing her whole review off the two sentence summary

And then McGee just decided to throw the entire first book in a blender. And throw in the villain who has singlehandedly destroyed basically everything.....getting exactly what she wants and winning? And nobody says anything? Huh?

So yeah this book was weird af and Marshall was the only character I didn't hate. He was cool. Except he was super chill the whole time and then all of a sudden has a conniption fit because he sees his girl sharing a platonic hug with her sister's fiancee, k
