This book is primarily theological responses, not love poems. It may be that the translation gives this the wrong tone, or it may be that the specific poems curated for this collection were a poor match to the theme of love poems. There are a few poems actual about love and relationships platonic or romantic, but not many.

Some beautiful poems and phrases hidden between inaccessible waffle.

It is a collection of poems of love and there are many good poems in this book but i would say this is not my cup of tea I read only half of the book and got bored. Maybe that's because I wasn't patient enough or it was too deep for me to get into it. In any ways, I lost interest and had to put it down after half of it. I would suggest you to read it if you like deep meaning poetries. Some people might love it and enjoy it but I didn't enjoy it much. Although some of the poems were great, it wasn't meant for me.

I only read the poems and some of the footnotes, but boy did some of these poems reach out from the book and shake me like a branch in the wind. Will re-read in the future and actually read all the rest

Very thought-provoking and beautiful poetry. The commentator is impressively well-versed in the history and mythology surrounding these poems and poetry in general, and each section's introduction was beneficial as a standalone writing and towards my understanding of the poems of the text. I do not claim to fully understand any of the poems in this collection, but they are still very edifying and contain some of the most beautiful analogies even for the most basic level of understanding.

Love and connection with your inner self and the human spirit. These poems are humbling and grand in their simplicity and creative imagery. Rumi has wisdom that would benefit many a person. I'm especially find of the poem 'Moses and the Shepherd'.

"Hearing Rumi's poetry helps. He would say, though, that poetry can be dangerous, especially beautiful poetry, because it gives the illusion of having had the experience without actually going through it."

I didn't really start reading poetry until recently, which helped me get out of this reading slump I fell into. I can't tell you how utterly, ridiculously happy it makes me to come across writers like Rumi. He's a whole new world, though. He writes absolute magic. I'm in love.

Removing my rating and review after finding out that Coleman Barks is essentially a conman who neither speaks  nor reads Farsi, but instead has pulled these poems out of his own ass and slapped Rumi’s name on it.

i've only just recently gotten into poetry so maybe it was not the best idea to read this but i will try again when i'm more well-versed in the genre.
