I received this book to review. It's been on my to wishlist for a while and I was super excited to receive a copy. I read the first 60% in one sitting I couldn't put it down. I was immediately sucked into the story, I ended up taking it in my purse and reading it while my husband drove.
The story is about a girl who is half demon and half human who encounters twin girl demons who split her in half in essence. Her human half has control during the daylight hours and her demon half has control during the night hours. They are essentially two different people who share one body, or maybe two personalities is a better description.
The human half is Liora she's a high school girl who tries to blend in. Her teachers all hate her as well as most of the students. She's more or less a loner, she does have a few friends but she's not able to hang out after dark so she avoids situations and the possibility of questions she doesn't want to answer. She lives with Tatiana her guardian who happens to be a witch, who saved her when her friends where murdered. She looks after her and make sure that she's taken care of, also keeps the demon half in check.
The demon half is Lucky she's a fire demon from what I gather. She spends her nights working for Tatiana collecting debts, torturing, and even killing demons. She's resentful of Liora she hates that she's stuck only having to live at night only. She tends to overpower Liora and get her in trouble at school, part of the reason the teachers don't like Liora. She's kinda of the tough girl with a chip on her shoulder.
The both have encounters with a handsome dark haired guy. Each one falls for him yet doesn't know that the other knows him. Liora doesn't know he's not human, and Lucky doesn't know that Liora even knows him. His name is Kieron he develops relationships with each girl creating a bond as each girl falls in love with him. Only to find out that there is more to him then just a half demon.

The story kept me on the edge of my seat I found myself rooting for both Lucky and Liora because each one is special in her own way. You can't help liking each one. The characters are very well developed. I kinda see Kieron as like Mr. Perfect as I read the story but he does have a few flaws but he's kinda of the guy that every girl wants to have as the love of her life.
I loved the book I can't say that enough.

OH MY GOODNESS!!!!!!

So.. I'm halfway through Fire with Fire, part 2 of the Demonblood Series, when I realize I hadn't reviewed part 1! If that's not an indication of how thoroughly addicting this series is.. then I don't know what is! This is one of the best series I've had the pleasure of reading in a while. A delicious twist on demonkind tales told from two very unique POVs(Lucky and Liora).

Kieron, Bones, and Tristan are all extremely diverse chracters. Each of them have their own story and I can see Penelope writing several more books focusing on them! And I'd be one of the first people to buy them too!

I would absolutely reccommend this book to anyone who enjoys PNR.

I got a copy for review in exchange for an honest review.

3 stars or 4 stars, I was debating what to give this book throughout reading it, in the end I decided I liked the book enough to give it 4 stars. I will explain more later. I think the blurb gives a slightly different idea of where the book is about. The book is about Liora a human girl, who is a bit anti-social and only has one friend in school. Further she is really smart and therefore finds school boring as hell. When night falls she changes in Lucky, a demon who then inhabits Liora's body while Liora sleeps. Well inhabits Liora's body is not really the right description, they are the same person but instead of being half human and half demon she is literaly half human and half demon. Both person aren't aware what happens when the other is awake, but hey where once one. Okay I am making this sound very complicated :p. So when it is day we get to see Liora struggling through school and when it's night Lucky is in charge and goes to the demon rhealm.

I really like the idea behind the story, a girl with a demon inside her, literaly. I love original stories and this story was certainly original. The beginning immediately captured my attention, but after that it became a bit slow. Liora's days are a bit boring at first, she just goes to school and feels annoyed. I was looking forward to the nights when Lucky was in charge. And then a gorgeous new guy comes along who only has eyes for Liora and there we have instant love. I do not like love at first sight so I was thinking of giving this book a 3 stars then. Afterward their relationship develops quite normally so I was feeling a bit better about the book. Also things are happening in the demon rhealm and the story got more interesting. So again thinking of 4 stars.

The only thing I really miss in this book is explanation. What are demons exactly? what is the demon rhealm (this is the name I made up for it because I keep forgetting the term the book uses)? what are the different factions/areas of demons? they have wars with each other but why are they different? I think it is more like different countries but I am not 100% sure. And what is Tatiana exactly? Liora lives with Tatiana, Tatiana is a witch of some sort, but what exactly? And why does Liora lives with Tatiana? we get some insight in this question but I still don't really understand why tatiana choose to take Lucky in her house.

Then the characters. The charcaters are surpisingly well developed. At first they came off as a bit shallow, but as the book progresses I came to like them more and more. We get to know much about Liora and lucky's feelings but also get some sense of who the people around them are. And even if we don't get much information I still have the sense that I have some idea who they are. I also liked the romance and friendschips in this book, apart from the love at first sight. I really liked Bones and Kieron!

Another point I have to mention is that sometimes there was a bit too much focus on certain emotions and sometimes too less.
Spoiler I found Lucky taking the death of her best friend Ivy a bit too easy. While she was truggling a bit too much with her feelings for Bones and Kieron

To conclude: this is a really nice book. Only minpoints are the love at first sight and some lack of world building. I really liked the story and the originality of it and the characters where likeable too. I am looking forward to the next book in this series!

My favorite thing about A Demon Made Me Do It was that I couldn't call what was going to happen. Especially with the love triangle ... square ... pentagon (heck, we could throw in a countless number of sides, I suppose)? It was nice to not know precisely who was going to end up with who. I love that readers get a prophecy pretty early on in the novel, but that it doesn't really give away the future, just muddles it and provides possibilities (like a good prophecy should).
OK, actually, my favorite thing might have been the dual narration. I had a hard time, at the end of any given chapter, knowing who I wanted to hear from next. I thought the development of the story was deftly handled as well. Sometimes it would take several chapters to get a single day and night covered, and other times, Liora or Lucky would sum up three or four days with a few sentences. The pacing of the story was strong. Because both Lucky and Liora had interesting lives, there wasn't a need for a whole lot of "action" in the majority of the book - the characters held the reader's attention. I personally abhor "paranormal" stories where every other chapter SOMETHING attacks - it was nice to have action in a believable way - Lucky went out looking for it. The division between interpersonal drama, action, romance, flashbacks and plot exposition was balanced and designed for reader enjoyment.
Also, the world was immersive, but for the most part, well-explained. And some of the secrets, the reader gets the idea, are not shared on purpose but will slowly unfold as the series continues. The characters were also well-developed. Their personalities and motivations made *sense* (how refreshing) and the reader could relate to them. The one exception to this rule was, of course, supposed to be the exception. Even as the characters in the book wondered what he was up to, that hunk of gorgeous subterfuge, so too did the readers. Thus King has set the reader up to identify with her characters and to have every reason to continue reading.
Highly enjoyable.
Spoiler My one plot question has to do with the deaths of Cody and his girl ... I'd love to know why them, why now, why there? I hope this gets answered. I had a hard time understanding the motivations of the enemy or their prey - and also figuring out why they were still acting in that area if Lucky had supposedly scared them off with her hunting. I feel fairly confident that there is yet more Kieron subterfuge and interesting motivation surrounding these two prisoners, and I look forward to understanding it.

Oh, PS. I love Bones. :D

I received this book through R2R and have to say I couldn't put the book down it was so good.

Liora/Lucky were a very interesting character, having been split by evil demons when they were 12. I found it interesting how Ms. King showed the beauty of humanity through Liora and the fierce almost vigilanty feeling you get from Lucky, who's wanting vengence for her friends death.

Kieron was a good character as well, able to figure out that something was amiss with his "girlfriends" and putting it together. Sometimes he was a little hard to believe, I think maybe it's because we knew he was lying to Liora through most of the book and at times even to Lucky (even tho she was quicker to figure that out). I thought his sacrifice at the end did prove his feeling to LiLu which bumped him up a notch.

Bones was my fav. character, his love for Lucky was real and undemanding and in the end he left me completely heartbroken. I hope he has a big role in the next book. Please!

Anyway, if you are looking for a good Demon book I recommend this one and look forward to reading the next book in the series.

At first I wasn't too sure about it cause I'm really not into the whole demon stuff (it creeps me out) but a few pages in and I was hooked. I totally loved it! I really loved Lucky even though she got on my nerves sometimes. She was a bad ass but she was kinda vulnerable at the same time too and Liora had her own perks too. Though she annoyed me with the part about hating demons and demions and all they signify (hello you were totally one too). Both sides had their faults and resented the other and I hope they can get along better in the next book.
There was a love triangle going on and I just have to say that I am not totally against this like a lot of people. They do happen in real life after all, having been in one I know its not really as good as it looks from the outside and is very complicated and hard to choose between two totally okay guys.
I didn't really love Bones (cough*man whore* cough*) and I know its not his fault he's part incubus... but seriously having sex with multiple virgins everyday to survive???? and then expecting the woman you want to be okay with that??? I know nobody would be okay with that.
I totally fell in love with Kieron, he's so sweet. Its kinda interesting to see how he interacted with both Lucky and Liora. He gets to have two chicks in one body and then they feel all insecure and shit not knowing what he does with the other half. Sad. And funny at times.
All in all a very good book, though it didn't sway me in the way of the demons. Their world was interesting and all.
I really loved it and i am totally gonna read the second book. I just need to figure out where to get it
