My heart and my mind were not ready to feel all the emotions that this book opened up. I could not put it down even at work.

Read this book. The lyrical verse - slam poetry - was amazing, more so if you listen to it being spoken by the author herself.

Poetry without the confusing poems, words that sing a story, a sad and beautiful story, of culture and religion, of hope and battle, of becoming. Such a book !!!! I couldn't have loved it more, I will reread this and buy copies from friends. I listened to it on audio read by the author who reads this from her heart. I recommend this book to anyone who loves a good story.

I don't really read poetry, if it comes along with the book I'm reading, I usually skim through them. Until recently when I read "Diary of a young naturalist" by Dara McAnulty, I started considering trying out poetry literature (perhaps I have grew more patient and compassionate nowadays to appreciate the beauty of poems). Then I saw some people that I follow on Goodreads, who also don't read poetry gave this one a high rating, and said that this was a surprising read.
I totally agreed with them, this was indeed a surprising read in a good way. I learned a little bit about slam poetry now. I also learned that I enjoyed this type of storytelling and this way of expressing one's thought, feeling and emotion. Elizabeth's words are powerful and emotional. Her stories are personal and also very relatable. Overall I really enjoyed it. Oh, I highly recommend listening to its audiobook!
