Kind of disappointed about this one to be honest. I was really looking forward to read a lighthearted romcom to reduce some upcoming midterm stress, but the comedy in this book was non existent and the romance was lacking... I also felt no connection to the characters whatsoever; honestly most were very unlikeable and irritating, and made me feel so pissed and even more stressed out than I already was feeling from when before I started reading this book. Mission failed.
Maybe I would have upped it half a star if I had read this book in summer (definitely gives off summer holiday vibes) instead of autumn, but in general this book wasn't my favourite.

I started Lucy Checks In blindly. I had no idea what I was reading and was just lured by the beautiful cover. Well I wasn’t disappointed. Much like the work that Lucy puts in the hotel she also puts in to herself and rediscovering her happiness.
It’s a heartfelt second act story that everyone can enjoy.

This book had a really slow start. There were parts i loved, but some parts I felt were just filler. Lucy Checks In is one of those books where you don’t regret reading it, but not at the top of your list to recommend to others.

Thank you to St. Martin's Press and NetGalley for the advanced reader copy. These opinions are my own.
Lucy had a really bad few years after the owner of the hotel she managed embezzled millions. Now her only chance at a new job is in Rennes, France. But her expectations for bringing the hotel up to the standards of American tourists vastly differs from the reality she finds.
I really appreciated when the book started. That might seem odd to include in a review, but I was glad that we didn't have to go through the problems of the old hotel with Lucy. Instead, we join her on the train to her new adventure and experience all her emotions from there. It allowed me to deeply empathize but also feel optimistic.
All of the characters were fabulous. The hotel had seven people living there when she arrived. I found them easy to tell apart, and all were unique. And the setting was equally amazing and made me yearn to visit.
And most of all, I loved Lucy. It's so refreshing to read about a 49-year-old protagonist with life both behind and before her.

Book #125 read in 2022
When Lucy takes a job at a hotel in Rennes, France, she gets... less than she bargained for. The hotel is not up and running, it is a disaster. The owner tasks her with getting it ready for customers with the help of the misfit crew that lives on property. The characters in the book were so charming. Dee Ernst has become a must-read author for me!

I really liked this book!! I found it to be enjoyable and engaging enough to pique my interest from page one. Lucy is almost 50 and has already lived a full life and as a result I felt that her character didn’t have to develop as much but even still she blossoms into the business woman she always knew she was meant to be. The idea of building a hotel with such an eclectic group of people is honestly a dream. All while living the French fantasy. ! A must read when it’s released in august 2022.
I really enjoyed Lucy Checks In as a story about personal growth, navigating the ups and downs of life, and some romance sprinkled in. It was refreshing to read a story like this focused on a woman in her 50s. I really bought into Lucy's inner life and character development, and thought many of the supporting characters came to life on the page. The only part(s) that fell a tad flat were the romance plotline - which needed fleshing out - and the weaving of her family in the States back into her life at the end of the story. Overall, I really enjoyed this book.

I enjoyed that Lucy was older and starting her life over. I enjoyed her backstory and her rebuilding her life along with the hotel. The hotel renos were weirdly satisfying and the supporting cast was wonderful. The one issue I had is that I found the timing of wvents in the book were a lottle hard to follow it wasn't a big deal but took away from the story a bit. Lucy and Bing's love story was cute but predictable. I do wish it all happened faster because by the time it got going the book was over. I actually enjoyed Marie Claude and Phillippe's love story more. Overall a quick simple satisfying read.
