Islamophobic, misogynist drivel- This is the first book I've read by the author and not a genre I often read. I was hoping this book would satisfy the espionage thriller prompt for the 2017 PopSugar Reading Challenge, but I had to stop reading it 1/3 of the way through. What a waste. There's a reason why Glenn Beck loves Daniel Silva.
Masterpiece
As always, Daniel Silva never fails to deliver a masterpiece. He is a master storyteller, a weaver of words. I can't wait for the next one!

A super thriller... Spell binding. Not only for its racy style but for weaving an emotional wrench to it so very effortlessly.
Extremely topical with ISIS terror growing manifold day after day and year after year, an amazing work which actually reads like a story happening in real time .
The emotional turmoil of being an Israeli and being targeted worldwide is explicitly stated .... Maybe truly understood by being an Israeli.
The book is a must read for all those who want to know about the terror ridden world today.

Liked the story but the politics were too heavy handed for me. I don't like being lectured on what to think, especially in fiction.
I couldn't put this book down! I think it was one of the best in the city. The details were spot on & very realistic. Scary realistic. Can't wait for the next book!!'
WHY IS IT OVER. Ending a Gabriel Allon book is one of the saddest parts of life, as is waiting another year for the next one.
The Black Widow was full of suspense, emotion, and stress fully on my part as I panicked multiple times throughout a and also sobbed. I can't wait for more, I honestly can't. I love this book and I love this series.

I really enjoyed this. It was a bit cookie cutter and a lot of reminiscing but the plot really picked up.
3.5 stars, rounded down because of the departure from what makes Silva so great: his protagonist, Gabriel Allon.
I've read (and own) every one of Silva's books. While this one isn't my least favorite, it wasn't one of my most favorite either. Black Widow is full of generous detail, and well-researched locations and events, but while Gabriel Allon, Silva's Iraeli assassin, is in the book, he plays less of a central role, and the book suffers.
I missed the intellect of Allon and the absence of art and Allon's work as an art restorer in this book. As a result, it read more like a political spy novel than the richer, deeper works Silva is known for.

From my finsta reviews, c. August 2021:
I would not recommend reading this, not only because it portrays Islam as a den of extremism and terrorism, but also because it's written in this style that makes you want to die because it's like the literary version of a Marvel movie. All action sequences, cryptic official-sounding conversations, and drawn-out suspense, no real depth. This guy writes a full book like this every year. I respect the hustle but I'm not jumping at the chance to read more of his work.
