Definitely not my type of book, I couldn't even finish it. Terrible.

I found this very boring, didn't feel like picking it up, liked some parts. I do respect it-placed in the time that it was written. It is mind blowing that this book is almost 300 years old...

It has been a while since I read it for school. We had to pick a classic and I wanted to impress the teacher. Anyway I can clearly remember few things about this reading experience. Well, only one, but I repeat it.

Beginning of the story is well-known from different kind of kids shows and basically from everywhere. There's movie with Jack Black and Donald Duck cartoon with it. But I was surprised how political and weird it was. (No, I don't want to know how bad giant humans smell)

And then the last part of adventure. I was rather surprised. The book that has been turned into children's entertainment is not only political, but simply has a negative view of humanity in the end. It was truly not what I expected. And considering that this is a classic, and the plot is hardly ever surprise when you star to read one, it is quite weird thing to say about a book this old and famous.

I read this about 30 years ago, and I loved this return trip through it. It's perfectly amazing to me how fresh Swift's comments and insights are. To think that this book is almost 300 years old - amazing! People just don't change. People's situations just don't change.

Sure, it may have looked like a good thing to read 50 years ago.

I was surprised by how much I enjoyed this book. The matter-of-fact tone of Gulliver's narration makes the absurd things he's describing all the funnier. Don't read it for the characters (they're not much to write home about); read it when your imagination needs a stroll and your stomach needs a laugh and your brain needs a teaspoon of humility.

⭐⭐

Do authors know what paragraphs are? If so, please use them! One thing I hate the most when it comes to books is tones and tones of description where paragraphs are like 4 pages long. I need dialogue. I need chat! Otherwise I just bored.

The only I can tell you about this book is what I already knew before I read it. A giant man getting trapped by very little people. I know more happened, but that's all I got. By the time i got the second part of the book, I wasn't interested anymore and was just reading to finish.

And please don't come at me. I know this is a kids book and I am not the right "audience" for it. But to me, kids books need to be engaging and this was the furthest from it. If this isn't engaging for me, reading it for pleasure, imagine how a 12 year old child with no interest in reading must feel. I almost feel bad for giving my copy to my brother because the boy is gonna be bored to death and think I hate him. Genuinely.

I also wanted to give this a go because I didn't grow up in the UK, therefore I didn't have much accessed to these classics when I was a kid and i didn't want to miss out. Turns out i didn't miss out on anything and hate myself for even trying.

Maybe I'll just read Harry Potter next
