adventurous funny reflective slow-paced

I read the first few chapters about the lilliputians for class. I had fun reading them.

I don't know how I did it, but I was able to push through and finish this book! I found this to be such an insufferable read and I couldn't wait to just be done with it once and for all. The language was bland and confusing, the story felt too chopped up, and the overall execution felt odd to me. I understand that the four parts didn't necessarily have to be linked, but they just felt like four short stories that led to nowhere in the end. Overall though, this is a work of satire, and I thought this was the only redeemable element. Since satire is the main purpose here, I'll give it 2 stars, but only because the satire was fairly decent. Otherwise, I really didn't enjoy this at all.
adventurous mysterious slow-paced

Obviously a classic. A well-written satire that has become a part of everyday life and culture. Even if people don't realize it, we use words and expressions from this book regularly. Yahoos, Lilliputian, etc.

And obviously important to me as the inspiration for my first novel.

4.5 Stars

All in all, I really enjoyed Gulliver's Travels. I think I would have enjoyed it even more, if I were more acquainted with all of the political satires. I will have to read it again one of these days.

I was probably better at working my way through classics as a child than I am now. It’s rather perplexing really. Although, I failed to enjoy them as much during my childhoods so I guess it’s both a win-win and a lose-lose situation.

As one of my childhood reads I did enjoy this one, but it is very far from being one of my favourite classics. It’s simply one for which I can say ‘oh yes, I picked it up’.

Still, it was a nice read and maybe if I had been older when reading it I would have enjoyed it more. I may very well give it another go to see what I think of it now that I’m older.
