Heart-wrenching and soul-crushing, what a beautiful tale about the importance of stories, the consequences of love and grief, and how nothing is ever as black and white as it seems.

6/5 Heartbreaking asf! This series is so underhyped and needs to be talked about more! Truly embodied the cost of war, and how there are no winners just survivors. I’m gonna be thinking about the ending of this book for awhile omg
Rip Helene you would’ve loved and hated Silver Springs

This is the kind of book you need to read with a buddy (ie you need to find someone who has already read it and incoherently scream at them as various events happen).
Because reviewing the book itself would probably either be incoherent screaming or spoilers galore, I'm going to, instead, express admiration for the phenomenal audiobook production. These narrators brought each character so much life - even the one who gets only one chapter. The way Katharine McEwan's voice cracks when Helene breaks. The way Steve West's voice booms when Elias shouts. The way Fiona Hardingham's voice follows every shift in Laia's thoughts.
Read this series. Or, better yet, listen to it. You will absolutely not regret it. It is like a candle in the darkness, when pain and expectation and war are a gale trying to blow it out, and all that guards the flame is the hope and determination of three people who have been through too much.

I was very disappointed with the last part of this series.
It felt very drawn out and to me lost itself in weighty dialogues and missing in action/adventure.
The romantic bits felt a bit too dramatic and I didn't care about the Soul Catcher storyline at all.
I felt dissatisfied with the explanation (or better lack thereof) of Laila's powers and would definitely liked to know more about it, how did it end up in Laila? How come Helene has powers?
For me personally I didn't like Helenes ending, it felt a bit too much; too much suffering with no use for the storyline in my opinion.
And the ending in general felt anti climatic.

This book showed no mercy. I’m happy and sad at the ending.
Bleeding skies, who is cutting the darn onions now!!!!
