Kyle, Josh and Eve. He’s a teacher ( but not her teacher) and High School Football coach. He’s 28, she’s 18.
“He who can does, he who cannot teaches”
“Baby,” he whispered “I only have one good arm, but I’ll carry you”

Jewel E Ann is officially a top auto-buy author for me. Her unique way of telling such character-centric, emotional stories continues to captivate me & leave me in awe with every book. The Apple Tree is no different. What might be thought as, as a taboo romance is in actuality a deeply thought-provoking & carefully crafted story about a young woman who is faced with the reality of how she copes with all the anxiety her overly religious upbringing has created while falling in love with a man & his son who she wants to be everything for. Yes, that man is ten years older, her neighbor & also happens to be her father’s best friend’s brother (enter forbidden territory) but their relationship is one that is built on honest confessions. The banter between them is wonderful & relatable. Eve being 18, is both young & mature. She can be a caretaker yet has this innocent vulnerability when confessing her feelings for Kyle. Kyle is still traumatized by his previous relationship & trying to save not only his heart but his young son’s. Despite his hesitation, he can’t deny his feelings for Eve. Their chemistry is electric & the angst is perfection.
Set in 1987 (they go see Dirty Dancing in the theater), this is filled with tension, wonderful banter & such interesting character growth that just left me thinking about this couple long after I finished the book. The forbidden nature & secrecy of their relationship adds another layer to the already complex dynamics. They have to navigate their feelings while maintaining a facade around Eve's family who is always around. This book will run you through the gamut of emotions - heartache that will be healed by hope, self-discovery, & love. This series is all about the human connection and I cannot wait for the next book to tie up these sisters' stories.
