Hard for me to get into the story, not very captivating
I really wanted to like this book. I heard good things and the synopsis sounded promising, but honestly it was just too much. The story was random and scattered and I just couldn't get into it. I figured maybe it would just take time to understand the unexplained terms and situations, but 170 pages in and I didn't want to expend any more energy on the book so I sped through the rest of it. The author states in the afterword that if the novel doesn't make sense or seems too random, they'll come over and explain it with origami finger puppets. Maybe I need that to enjoy/understand the book?
My very favorite sort of novel; the kind that hooks you early, makes you fall in love with the characters and care about their journey. This is a tale of the intersection of science and magic, of star-crossed lovers and the end of the world. I save my five star reviews for books I'll re-read. I foresee buying multiple copies of "All the Birds in the Sky", as I'll want to loan it to my friends and family.

It would have been a 3.75 but goddamn, the plot pace was so perfect and i cared so much about the characters - the ending too? not flawless but meaningful and wonderful regardless. A very worthwhile read (i used it to get out of a mega reading slump!)
Didn't know what to expect.
I didn't really know what the book was about when o started. The story jumped around quite a bit, but it was a fun read and interesting premise.

In all transparency I am giving this 3 stars because it wasn't what I had expected. It was a decent read, but I thought it would have more substance. It was selected for my book club and I had hoped it would be a great introduction to contemplative sci-fi for the group, but it didn't deliver.
That being said, it's an interesting coming-of-age, nature vs. tech tale.

4.5 - I never would have guessed at such a character-driven book based on that synopsis. But wow was this unexpected and entirely refreshing.
It was an interesting concept but did not keep my interest. The characters were not appealing.
