Ashley Green treats her friends Natalie Sanders and Lauren Davis to a trip from Santa Monica, California to Tulum, Mexico. Ashley had lost touch with Lauren after an argument the year before and although Ashley and Natalie are business partners, their relationship has recently been strained. Although the trip doesn't go perfectly, it looks like it could be what the three women need to reconnect. However, after a night of shots at a trendy bar, Ashley goes missing. Could secrets each of the women have been keeping have something to do with her disappearance?
This book begins with Natalie telling the story the morning after Ashley's disappearance. It then switches between past and present and is told from Natalie, Ashley, and Lauren's point of view. This technique works to allow the reader to get to know each of the three main characters, builds suspense, and adds to the fast pace of the book. I really cared about what would happen next and what the true story was behind Ashley's disappearance. However, none of the women were very likable which took away from what could have been a five-star thriller. They were supposed to be aged 39 and 40, but acted so immature and impulsively they came across like college coeds gone wild on Spring Break.
The suspense of the plot kept me reading even when I was aggravated with the behavior of the women, especially Ashley and Natalie. The ending was surprising and haunting and not what I had been expecting. In spite of the characters, I enjoyed this quick read that kept me entertained from beginning to end.

WOW - what a book! Girls Night Out was one of those books that is really hard to put down. The lives of these 3 women will draw you in and you will keep wanting more. I loved that it kept me guessing right to the end - and what an ending!
It is the story of 3 estranged friends - Ashley, Natalie and Lauren. Their friendships have been struggling recently so they head down to Mexico for a girls weekend to try to mend it. The ladies find it hard to reconnect, with lies being told and secrets staying secrets. They spend a lot of time drinking and then they meet Marco. They don't all trust him but he is their willing tour guide.
Then one night Ashley does not come back to the hotel and nobody knows why or where she is. Did she run away from her problems or did their new friend Marco kidnap her? Or could it be something worse?
I really enjoyed this book, a quick and easy read that keeps you interested til the very end. Thank you to Lake Union Publishing and Netgalley for an advanced copy of this book to read. My opinions are in no way biased.

I wanted to love this book but it just never took me there. There are many moving parts to the backstory as well as the events as they unfold. Three best friends, two of which are business partners go on a girls trip to Mexico to try to repair their friendships. The story gets told by each of the three women in a past and present narrative. The story line tries to lead you down multiple paths of the “who done it” but I felt pretty early on I knew how Ash went “missing” and ended up being right. The girls all seemed kinda whiny to me and I couldn’t connect to any of them. The same issues just kept coming up over and over again during the whole length of the book so it was kind of hard to push myself to finish it.

Spoiler. Ashley is dead, who did it, Natalie can’t remember, Lauren hates her. Ashley fell and hit her head but Batalie stepped towards her.
GIRLS' NIGHT OUT is a dark and heavily dramatic mystery novel that is not only entertaining, but immersive. Not only does this one begin quickly without missing a beat and jumping straight into the spine-chilling morning that our protagonists realize one of their friends is missing, but Fenton and Steinke capture the anxiety-ridden hangover ingenuously. I knew this one was going to be special the minute I began reading it. What I didn't know was how much more complex this novel would be compared to what I was expecting. The plot seems simple, fun, and adventurous on paper, but beginning this novel I was finding that it was more weighty, dark, and psychological and exceeded my expectations.
What I found that worked with this plot to this novel was that it wasn't cookie cutter, didn't play by the rules, and featured two separate timelines (which I LOVE). The amount of tension between the women is semi-light at first and kind of progresses as the story continuous and makes it believable that anything is possible. I also really enjoyed that this was more drama instead of a thriller filled with ridiculous dead ends. This is cohesive, full of intrigue, and dramatically dangerous. The mini-story-lines about each woman's past and what they are currently dealing with is not only done realistically and avoiding cliches, but chocked full of amazing details.
This is an engaging, sharply written, and harrowing thriller that dives into the characters psyche, toys with its reader, and leaves no stone unturned. This is the perfect summer thriller to sit outside with a cocktail and get lost in. Smart, stunningly written, and elaborate, I won't be forgetting this one anytime soon.

Another fanastic novel from Liz Fenton and Lisa Steinke. Although I thought I had it figured out, the book kept me on my toes and guessing until the final lines. Absolutely loved it.
This is a story about the friendship between Ashley, Lauren, and Natalie. Their friendship is complicated by real life hardships and they hope that a girls vacation to Mexico can help resolve some of their problems and help them remember why they were friends for so long. Their vacation, and any chance of reconciling, is put on hold when Ashley goes missing.
I’ll be honest. After a 1/3 of the way through the book I really wanted to quit reading. It wasn’t capturing my attention, I kept getting Lauren and Ashley confused, and I just wasn’t that into it. But I didn’t quit and I’m glad I kept going. It really started getting interesting about 1/2 way through and I really wanted to finish and see what happened to the characters. All in all a good easy read but it just wasn’t great for me.

There’s a lot to chew over with this novel. A girls holiday, fractured relationships, the one who feels left out and hard done by in the group. We’ve all experienced at least one of these throughout our life and so can identify with at least one of the characters. We also know someone who resembles another character!
Escaping to Tulum in Mexico sounds ideal but of course on holiday, everything changes including relationship dynamics. When one girl goes missing…well all hell breaks loose and the focus is now on the girls left behind…
This is quite an intense look at friendships and what happens when things go wrong. There are some lighter moment of course such as the name of the company the girls are involved in. Well BlowMe if the name is not just a little tongue in cheek. But let’s me grown up about this and wonder what we would do if our friend went missing…
What made this book for me was the plotting and the lead up to the day when the girl goes missing, the dynamics of the group, the clues that lead to the answer of what might have gone wrong.(It could be a bit confusing on a kindle so watch out for that) There’s a lot to take in and to work out with the girls and their relationships but the authors drip feed until a clearer picture comes into view.
It’s all very cloak and dagger and the paradise environment makes this even more chilling. The girls are away from home, their circle of friends, home comforts and everything is unfamiliar…. I say paradise but this book won’t be in the Tulum tourist shops anytime soon! It doesn’t give the place the best of ratings and makes it clear that it’s not the place for women to go…good for the book of course, but not in real life!
Bring on the next one – but before that, read this on a girlie holiday somewhere on a beach for maximum effect!
