Rebecca Dew and the nature writing saved this book from being a 1-star read. It's my least favorite of the series so far. It's just Anne meddling with everyone's affairs, and she somehow always manages to turn everyone's lives around. Full 360. It's annoying.
Anne of the Island was a 5-star read, and I was hoping this would be the same. It has a different tone than other AoGG books—such a downer. I will continue with the series, though. I have hope it will pick up again.
Also, Dora deserves better.

A nice addition to the series, but I just miss so much of the original cast from the first book. Where is Diana? I miss her!
Otherwise, I love and hate the fact that Gilbert is barely in this one. While, yes, the series is Anne's, they DID just get engaged!

I love Anne, but I wasn't as charmed by Anne of Windy Poplars.
There's something about the story that seems off. The plot is repetitive and a little all over the place. I don't care about any of the new and colourful characters that are introduced. The narration is mostly told through letter extracts that Anne writes to Gilbert, which takes away from the story and Anne's feelings of superiority is also more evident.
While the first half is a struggle, the second half somewhat makes up for it. I love the drama that comes with Anne sticking her perfect nose into other people's love lives, mainly because it leads to hilarious moments. Rebecca Dew and Dusty Miller have a beautiful love-hate relationship (if you know, you know) and Miss Minerva's morbidness makes her a kindred spirit.
I'm a little disappointed that I didn't love this book as much as I thought I would. Anne of the Windy Poplars is a filler read. It doesn't add anything to the series, but I still love the comforting, relaxing and heartwarming vibes.
