- this was the last of the books i originally read (bc copyright law... I was reading most of them off gutenberg as a kid and finding out this was on gutenberg australia made me so happy thank you to the Anne Wiki users i used to torment in 2015) so it was odd in canon knowing everythign - and mind you i was you know solidly ten years old at the time - but i do love this book greatly. this is NOT!!! the same as the first three books in the slightest; it's more similar to the Chronicles two than the rest of the series in my opinion but that is a-ok with me because I read Maud for her scathing takes on humanity (which. Yes. I know. she was honestly genuinely mean irl in a lot of her journals but they're funny you have to give them that).
- yay for Rebecca Dew,,, one of the foundations of this series imo
- "Freedom! Don't talk like a Yankee"
- This book might be the prettiest of them all imo in terms of descriptors. I think Anne's letter style just does that plus the knowledge that she and Gilbert are well and truly together now also bc it was one of the last Maud wrote in the series so there is that tone of returning to love and spring
- Little Elizabeth i love you!! one of my most belovedest Anne characters for real... maybe because she's just another Anne-type. is she too good to be real? I don't know and I don't care it's the Anne books.
- one of my favorite things ever is the little graveyard jaunt with Miss Valentine… everybody’s so real just then
- LOVE the omissions of certain pages Maud What exactly did Anne say LMAOO
- Everyone in this book is such a PERSONALITY the Pringles absolutely kill me they are the end all of all of Maud’s clans
- love the fact that the slightest thing turned the Pringle feud on its head Anne is just better LMAOOOO
- The Cyrus Taylor episode is SO funny too like its so bad but also absolutely freakin hysterical. Naming your kid Pringle is INSANE THOGUH!!!
- the buttermilk incident(s) was deeply funny to me as a kid and continues to be tbh
- as funny as some of these incidents are it's also like bro this really genuinely sucks lol (I am talking about Mrs. Gibson and several others who are straightup abusive)
- Anne, the everlasting matchmaker!!!
- "The world always will have fairies. It can't get along without them. And someone has to supply tjem."
- GUYS ALFKSJ:AGLSDGHSA:FJDALK:SGJD the bit where Anne's talking about Canadian wars and how they'll never have anything but an academic interest in them because they can't happen anymore and as sad as that is to me given WP was written in 1936 so ofc Maud was writing with full knowledge of the Great War and all that the stupidest part is that younger me wrote here "WWI & WWII" like THANK YOU BESTIE VERY COOL. DEFINITELY NEEDED TO KNOW THAT !!!
- oh TEDDY.... oi;whgdksl;gjdsajlg hfjkgu;jk. The whole Lewis plot is another one of Maud's classics -- the long lost relation -- but oh Teddy :(
- Katherine... may be one of the most genuine characters in the Anne-verse at this point, I think, the casual cruelty of her life and who she became because she didn't have someone like the Cuthberts... a mirror to Anne in some sense, and she's important to me because of that... even her sheer candidness about the envy and wrongness of her life because as much as it might be a cliche, she really did just need 'place magic'... Green Gables and Anne. Also I'm beginning to realize I should make like Katherine and jus change my views on existence tbh
- chat why did I underline the line "a tall young man with hazel eyes and the beginnings of a mustache" literally who gave 11 year old me a pencil.
- Dora continues to be the prim model child oh lawdy
- "Gilbert darling, don't let's ever be afraid of things. It's such dreadful slavery. Let's be daring and adventurous and expectant. Let's dance to meet life and all it can bring to us, even if it brings scads of trouble and typhoid and twins!"
- this book is SO MANY personalities even more than the others you can very much tell Maud's short story vibes... the episodes of humanity I'm obsessed with them all help
- "I can think things like that but I can never express them so beautifully... you talk in the language of the violets, Miss Shirley" yea HOWEVER "I want to possess you exclusively" is killing me. Hazel's bit is so fricken funny helpppp
- Wait what Gilbert working on a railroad out West? Did not register this at all before
- the other thing is that i am entirely jealous of the ability to just,,,, run around free out of doors?? if I want this nature I gotta drive like half an hour to the nature preserve oh boy i sure do love suburbs! also... once again... small towns
- the way Anne turns everyone into her friend is truly a gift i wish i had
- GERALD AND GERALDINE HELPPPPP
- tbh I think I really should start getting acquainted with the dresses they talk about all the time in these books... the poplins and muslins and taffetas and voiles and everything... because I look them up and i'm like ok that looks like linen??? and then i promptly forget and then remember i should figure out when certain fabrics were used and for what... I really want to konw more about fashion history but keep forgetting lmao (i forgor moment)
- the Tomgallon stories are WILDDD sometimes I remember that back then Things Happened All The Time!!!! also "Men have always seemed to me such trivial creatures" is HYSTERICAL
- also... a terrible old house, because of the stories you're told... place magic yet again but it goes both ways either way
- yea alright I am going to reiterate I love this book because I feel like I know all these people intimately from these short sketches... obsessed. I do not like the high amount of abusive parents getting passes in here however
- why does everyone move to Boston lmao???

Eeeee!!! I adored this book and watching the influence Anne has on the lives of everyone around her and meeting all the unique personalities that reside in Summerside. And I cannot wait for the next adventure!
