I felt determined to only give this book 3 stars at the beginning but Anne won me over in the end. "Anne of Windy Poplars" has all of the charm and imagination that I have come expect and love from this series but I kind of feel like I could have skipped this book and not missed any major plot points as far as the whole series is concerned. Also, the author's decision to tell much of this story through letters from Anne just wasn't working for me; I found myself counting pages to the end of chapters.
All that said though, I did enjoy the different storylines throughout the book and really enjoyed seeing the differences between the movie I grew up with and the original story. So many pieces of Anne's adventures and encounters were glued together to create Morgan Harris and Emmeline in the movie.

As always, I love this world and these characters. Reading this series makes me feel like I'm snuggled up in a cozy blanket by the fire with a cup of tea. This book felt a bit slower than the previous instalments in the series, but I still enjoyed the atmosphere and story. Looking forward to Gilbert properly being in the next book!
These books continue to be lovely, light and quick - perfect for the summer time, reading in the sun. I did kind of miss hearing from some of my favorite characters, though the new ones are enjoyable and quite hilarious to read about as well.
Okay, so this was a good book but Anne is without Gilbert and I happen to really like them together so it loses in that regard. The narration is also a little odd as it switches from Anne's letters to Gilbert to third-person narration without any warning. I was fine with the letter technique and am not sure it needed to be changed up like that.
In this book, Anne is the principal of Summerside High School. I'm not entirely sure what principal meant at that time but I do not understand how a twenty-something would be in that position. Of course, I didn't understand a sixteen-year teaching in previous Anne books so I guess it fits. Meanwhile Gilbert is in medical school so they have a three year separation to endure-sadface for this reader.
But Anne has plenty to do in the meantime. She has to find a place to live during her tenure and she has to charm the Pringles, the clannish, well-to-do family who object to her placement when one of their own could have had the position. The first problem is easily remedied when she finds Windy Poplars with two widows, Rebecca Dew, and an adorable like-minded next door neighbor whose spirit is being crushed by her strict grandmother. The second problem soon ends as Anne displays her backbone, charm, and a little bit of luck.
We follow Anne over the course of her three years there, each with new scrapes and new adventures as well as new couplings and the signature Anne charm. Pretty much everyone falls for her eventually.
Overall: Really quite good.

Oh the wit in this one! Anne and her savvy exposure of peoples' true characters will never fail to cheer me up, it truly is a delight to read.
This book still had that signature Anne of Green Gables charm, but this being the book that follows Anne of the Island, it was kind of disappointing. My favorite part of this book was definitely when Anne professes her love to Gilbert in her letters like they are my loves for real :(

Odotellessa Anna toimii rehtorina Summersiden yhteiskoulussa ja tutustuu moniin uusiin ja mielenkiintoisiin ihmisiin. Jostain syystä tämä kirja ei onnistu ihan tavoittamaan aitoa Anna-henkeä, vaan jää hieman etäiseksi. Osin kyse voi olla käännöksestä, jossa on käytetty Annalle hieman liian moderneja sanoja kuten pisamat (kesakot olisi annamaisempaa), killuttimet tai näpit. Olen tottunut lukemaan hieman vanhempia käännöksiä, joten uudenaikaisempi kieli välillä särähti korvaan. Itse tapahtumissakin on joitain asioita, jotka eivät kuulosta annamaisilta, joten pelkästä käännöksestä ei ole kyse. Viehättävä kirja tämäkin on, mutta ei onnistu nousemaan samalle tasolle aiempien osien kanssa.
Still love Anne forever and ever but this one was missing some of the magic and charm compared to the first few. Of course, still very sweet and enjoyable though!
A serious departure from the other Anne books, Windy Poplars is written primarily in epistolary style. This is one of my favorites of the series. Anne is grown up, but her boundless enthusiasm for life still explodes off the page.
Good book, you got to read it, if you read the first three, its truly a soft happy book.:D
