Gotta say, I am fervently enjoying Anne’s life. In a way I never could when I was younger, I never even made it through the first book! Audio certainly helps with that. I love seeing her triumph over people determined with prejudice, killing them with kindness and eventually everyone does fall in love with Anne. You can’t help it.
Audiobook (Dreamscape media) - this narrator did the last 3 books and I am SO GRATEFUL the next has a different narrator. I broke out my kindle to read Anne of The Island bc I hated her inflection so much and how every old lady sounded like a gruff lumberjack, but had to go back to audio for this one. Oy. I felt like this book was LM Montgomery’s vehicle for using all of the stories people told her IRL and then asked if she would be putting into a book. It read like a series of loosely tied together short stories. I missed Gilbert’s physical presence - he is mentioned briefly and it’s alluded that he wrote to Anne. But we don’t have anything from his point of view at all!
All in all it was still delightful and whimsical, I loved the vignettes and they’re worth reading, I still love Anne, and I’ve gotten this far so I might as well finish out the series.
