slow-paced

Skimmed large sections. Parts were still charming, but it just got to be far too formulaic. I don't think I'll continue the series.

No Gilbert at all basically (why does Lucy keep him from us so much??) and Anne's letters to him are redacted so you don't get the juicy bits thanks a lot Lucy. Doesn't hold up as well, still delightfully written and you meet some interesting characters but nothing that moves the plot along.

I didn't enjoy this one as much as the previous Anne books, being more or less a collection of stories about all the different characters in Summerside (and Anne's dealings with them), it feels like a stopgap that you're impatiently waiting to go by before Anne and Gilbert can finally make a home together. But, there are some gems in it, some hilarious (and some infuriating) characters, my favourite being Rebecca Dew.

Girl, why is Anne so JUDGY and mean in this book! Waaaay out of character
