The Terminal List

Jack Carr

2nd read in 2023 via audio. Enjoyed even more than the first time I read it. Great first book in the James Reece series by Jack Carr!
medium-paced

Extraordinary violence. Lack of character development. Unnecessary gore made me dislike Reece, especially when innocent people died. Political dig at the Clintons was unnecessary. Story and plot was also ridiculous and not believable.

I wanted to give this book 5 stars so bad. Like...DESPERATELY. It is an intense story of violence, unbelievable heartbreak and grief, and ultimate revenge. Lieutenant Commander James Reece is the Ultimate Warrior, a veteran SEAL whose only goal is to bring his men home safely, move into a more noncombatant role in the SEAL teams, and be able to be at home with his wife and daughter every night. But when tragedy not only strikes his team on a mission gone horribly wrong, but lands on his very doorstep? There is only one option: pure revenge. I love the premise, I love the way it's written, I love the utmost respect and honor given to the men and women who serve - or have served - in the Armed Forces (particularly the brothers who serve in Special Warfare/SPECOPS). I get it, they are patriots to the marrow in their bones. But man, there was about one too many cheapshots taken at liberals/progressives for me to give this all five stars. It's very possible to write a military-based fictional thriller without that, and that's the only downside to this book that I could think of. And to be honest, I've already preordered the sequel. Good writing trumps political differences any day of the week for me!

This book is good for anyone into military tactics, weapons, and fighting. I liked the aspect of fighting corruption in the government but disliked how descriptive some of the killings were. It’s fiction so unrealistic parts are thrown in and the villains are pretty flat
