This book is weird and wonderful. The end was underwhelming, but getting there was very enjoyable.

"Have you ever heard of a land called Wales?"
"No," said Sophie. "Is it under the sea?"

So funny, nostalgic (despite reading it for the first time), and whimsical. I loved the imagery. It was so refreshing reading about a magical world that is so nonsensical, taking a break from the comprehensive, logically laid out magical systems that is commonly shown in modern fantasy books. This isn't my usual take but I wouldn't have minded a wee bit more romance!

Really love this. It's a brilliant children's novel full of magic, silliness, and plenty of excitement. It's a real quick read considering its length but it's surprisingly complex, in the ways that only books for kids can be.

Yeah, I really liked this, but I probably won't be reading the rest of the series unless I just stumble into them, but I'd definitely recommend it for anyone with middle school kids.

The first 180 pgs were so similar to the movie I loved it and then the second half was WILD and so different but the characters were much sassier and flawed and I loved them

I forgot how enchanting this book is! Worth reading multiple times. One of my favorites and definitely a book I will revisit again and again in the future.

Sophie is perhaps one of my favorite fictional characters. The way she adapts herself to change is absolutely perfect. She takes everything in stride and won't put up with nonsense. Anyone interested in a quick fantasy read should pick up Howl's Moving Castle.
