Okay, that was a fun, dark, quick-paced book that had some messed up twists.

At eight years old, Wayland Maynard witnesses his father shooting himself in the head. We spend our time with Wayland when he's in his late teens and convinced that it wasn't his father who he saw that terrible day. He spends all of his time working to solve the mystery and, wow, what a twisted road he ends up traveling on.

I can't really say anything about the story itself due to spoilers but I will say that it was interesting and made me stop in my tracks a few times so I could focus all of my attention on the reading. I also spoke out loud to myself a lot which I'm sure was irritating to my wife who was working from home today...

Anyhoo, I totally dug this book and with Steven Weber as the narrator, I can absolutely recommend it.

Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for the hook up!

Yuck. I wish I wouldn’t have read this whole book. Kept with it because I was intrigued to find out. Book was gross in too many ways including the ending. The ending and a good portion of the story were ridiculousy far fetched.

Well that was not the secret I was expecting... 3.5/5

The only downfall of this book was the pacing at the begining. I felt like it took a while for the story to really get going and open up. You are given limited information that seems to repeat a bit though most of the story. Thankfully once it picks up, it really gets a bit crazy and messy. I was not at all expecting what happened towards the end. Once the story all comes together, that really saved this book for me.

The audio itself was really well done. I felt the narrator fit the role well and represented the storyteller.

This was my first book from this author, but I see that he has a lot of other books out. I'd be interested to see how his other stories are.

Thank you to Blackstone Publishing and Netgalley for a copy of this title in exchange for an honest review.

3.5 stars. This story was good for the most part. Lots of characters to keep track of. But the ending was weird and sad.

I swear I'm not elitist about fiction, but between the glowing reviews for "The Plot," and now this book, it may be a while before I trust the Bookmarks or Goodreads average reviews again. I need one of three things to get behind a novel: a likeable (or entertaining) protagonist, a creative plot, or a caliber of writing that's above 1980s pulp paperback. It doesn't have to be literary fiction, mind you, just interesting and thoughtful. Of those three needs, I got a half of one. "I Am Not Who You Think I Am" gave me an almost likeable protagonist who wasn't entertaining, and, by about page 180, becomes completely repulsive. Rather, he was dour, filled with rage, and hard impossible to rally behind. This is Grishamy writing at best, though, and the raved plot twist? I've seen it in no less than a half-dozen movies or TV shows in the past -- including such "obscure" productions as
Spoiler"August Osage County," "Top of the Lake," and "Lone Star"
. ("The Plot," meanwhile, delivered on none of the three, just FYI.)

This book guys! What a wild ride! You are kept in suspense almost from the very beginning with the tension building and building all the way through until the seriously twisted ending. Wayland’s rapidly growing obsession with finding out the truth had me holding my breath at times.
This was a pretty dark psychological thriller, nothing horrific, just unsettling at times. It was also a really fast read - one of those books that when you’re not reading you’re thinking about when you can read it. The ending really made me sit back and think WHOA! It was a bit ‘out there’ for me, but it still worked well.
Highly recommend!

Thank you Netgalley and Blackstone Publishing for the eARC

This was different from his other books that I’ve read but I still enjoyed it. The ending was not what I had expected! I definitely had a different direction in mind, but what he came up with was really clever in opinion.
