This my friends is how you do high-action satire and corporate culture commentary. It was a skillful and thought provoking narrative despite being so high-octane, and even every once in a while had a turn of phrase or metaphor that got my snobbish high class literary panties wet.

It does what the best sci-fi writing is supposed to do - explore central ideas of our culture through a new context to force us to think about them in a new way.

Would recommend to even non-sci-fi or action movie fans.

Holy crap that was a wild ride. This was the most enjoyable book for me by Richard Morgan. Basically combine Suits and Fast and the Furious and you get Market Forces.

This needs to be made into a movie.

At first I thought this would be a typical testosterone fuelled sex and violence fuelled romp through a dystopian future - you know typical from this author. Yet hiding underneath that slick exterior is a dark underbelly of biting and deeply bitter satire, taking down the wealthy and their laissez faire trickle down economic system and self centred and arrogant neo imperialist world view. At the centre of this tale however, is the gripping unraveling of the main character, as he comes to embody, in spite of himself, the darkest aspects of the world he inhabits. This is truly a book with a heart and a soul, you feel every downward lurch as his life spins off the rails. This really is a shining example of the genre.

As an aside I do find it super interesting how books are products of their time, even when set in the future - the book is overflowing with concern about terrorism, inequality, and globalism, which in many cases in our present have unfortunately been superseded by larger evils.

Wow, harsh ending.
I like this author a lot, I love his gritty and harsh anti-hero type characters and the blow 'em up, beat 'em up, shoot 'em up worlds they live in.
Chris Faulkner is my least favorite of his characters so far, not because he is a complete and utter bastard but more because he has these qualms of conscience, like he's a good guy who didn't mean for any of this to happen and isn't quite sure how it did.
The idea of 'Langley' now being contract killers was highly amusing, especially as they are also supposed to be highly unreliable and inclined to taking out innocent victims along with the intended targets. The entire concept of a market based off the rebel conflicts around the world was fascinating and 'road rage' as a way to further your career was brutal.
Morgan does not write books for the squeamish but they are a whole lot of action packed fun.

Amazing research and a very creative and realistic way of making a distopia.
The road rage gimmic is fun but feels gimmicky.

I thoroughly enjoyed it, but it's not amazing.
